The latest generation BMW 6 Series has been spotted once again. Due to be unveiled this Fall, the 2011 BMW 6 Series continues its testing process and the prototypes remain in the pre-final evaluation phase. The new 6 Series family will come in three flavors: Coupe, Convertible and the almighty M6.

The next 6-series coupe and convertible will be radically different from the current cars’ styling. The current 6 Series is very polarizing due to the “Bangle butt” it carries, but the redesigned 6er, is rumored to be a “super sleek” vehicle, as seen in these latest spy shots as well.

The 2011 6 Series is slightly longer and wider than the current generation. It will have shorter overhangs and a lower roofline which implicitly gives the car a more muscular look. Even though the video is deceiving by showing us a soft top (used for camouflage purposes), the car will receive the hardtop as seen in the BMW 3 Series Convertible and the soft top will NOT be an option.

The bodystyle has been designed to accommodate the hardtop, so no raised up rear-end. The headlights will resemble in some ways the ones from the CS Concept, which is good news for the die hard CS fans. We also expect a larger than usual front-grille, a trend seen in the latest models.

The test mule spotted here features the same large side mirrors as seen in some of the latest models, primarily due to the European Union regulations.

The interior design has also been re-drawn from ground up and it is being said to reflect some of the design cues seen in the Z4 Roadster.

Engine wise, the new 6 Series will feature a combination of diesel and petrol offerings. The high-end diesel model will be the 640d, powered by the N57 turbocharged straight-6 common rail diesel engine outputting 306 horsepower. At launch, the 2011 BMW 6 Series will be available with two gasoline powerplants, 635i and 650i, and one diesel engine, the aforementioned 640d.

why there aren’t spy-photos of the coupe?

  2. Jordan says:

I remember a BMW exec saying that the new 6 series will be the best looking BMW in a long time….. i hope so!

i think the biggest telling factor will be what the rear end looks like…

  3. n8n says:

I bet it will be much more good looking car than actual model :D

  4. viper says:

looks bigger , about 4,9 and 1,9 wide

  5. BMWM6 says:

im anticipating the 6 series more than the m5 for some reason

  6. Russell says:

But who would buy such a useless car? If you can only take it on day trips, you’re better off with a proper sports car. If you want a big luxury coupe, then why bother with the weight, complexity and expense of a convertible. An overgrown 3er like this is rumoured to be can never be compared to a proper grand tourer like the current 6er, the Maserati GranCabrio, the Aston Martin Vantage Volante (or even DB9 Volante), a Bentley Continental GTC, or even down to the E-Class Convertible (which is much cheaper). I’d bet that there is not a single 6 series convertible owner for whom their 6er is their only car, so why would you want the compromises of a metal roof.
Put a Peugeot badge on it and forget it if you’re going to throw away the premium convertible idea.

omg i cant believe im gonna do this…..

you just dont get the whole idea of a king size coupe…………ppl who buy these cars NEVER think moneywise

      • Russell says:

I DID buy one of these – that’s my point. It’s alright for all the fan boys to say it’s great, but none of them are going to shell out the big dollars. I had a current 3series convertible, and if I wanted the roof down I had to empty the boot of anything bigger than an attache case. So I bought the 650i and it has been BRILLIANT. I don’t want to go back to the bad old days.

      • plaxico says:

please mate, stop using my nick…im out for a 6-7 days and now there is a G-man flood here…….anyway ,i agree with you Russell

  7. T. says:

What I have learned about these prototypes is they fold the roofs for weight balancing on the rear of the car and add a fibre glass top covered in the soft top from the outgoing E64 to take them for public testing. The cars are also covered in fake panels which are vacumn formed pieces of plastic attatched to the body and covered in camouflage to disguise key details.

When they get behind closed doors at BMW’s private testing facility they effectively test the cars with the roof erect and folded , from what I have learned the Coupe is more of a Sportier car , whilst the cabrio is luxury performance orientated. You will see the final example Coupe first at the tail end of the year.

    Joy of 6 for Creativity.

The new BMW 6er Coupe will be officially announced in November, but already the gears are being put into motion regarding the launch.
UK advertising firm WRCS the team behind the UK advertisements of ” BMW – See How it feels” will be reponsible for the introduction of the new 6er Coupe – A sporting dynamic coupe in the grand sense.

The contract to WRCS come in light of winning the pool against established BMW marketing groups such as GSD&MS in the USA , Bcube in Italy and Davenport in South Africa.

  8. Daniel H. says:

Since this is more expensive than the 5, shounld there be a 640i with the engine of the 740i instead of the 635i

  9. badger says:

looks like the lower intake is gonna have some similarities with the 5er

  10. viper says:

seriously you can all go screw ur self

  11. plaxico burress says:

ive always liked 6……..beautiful car,but than again no match for cl

  12. viper says:

its not a cl competitor anyway , its an sl competitor palxi , but still sl is a much better car past present future

    • plaxico burress says:

      right sl

    • BMWM6 says:

      are you dumb

the sl 550 costs as much as an M6 and the M6 has 500 hp while the SL550 has 382 hp thats less than an m3

now you migh say well compare the M6 to the SL65 AMG which has 100 hp more than the M6 but it costs 100,000 dollars more

Mercedes is overpriced and the Sl is not even a good performer

    • Russell says:

Except that the CL and 6er are both 4 seaters, the SL is a 2 seater.
But it is closer to the SL than the CL, in my country at least. The CL is Bentley/Aston money here.

    • Elgee says:

The 6 series is the coupé version of the 5 series, while the cl class is the coupé version of the s class (competes with the 7 series), so they’re not competitors and the sl class is a roadster and is way more expensive. logically, the new E- class coupé should be the 6er competitor. The E63 AMG and M6 have the same size, same price and about the same power. However the M6 is way superior in my mind.

      • Jag says:

Actually, the CLS (based on E-Class platform) should be a more appropriate rival for the 6-Series. Although the CLS has 4 doors, they have the same size, same number of seats, similar engines. The E-Class Coupe is based on C-Class platform so it is in a lower segment.

        • Elgee says:

ur right, and maybe the 6 series will be available as a 2 doors coupé and 4 doors coupé like the cs concept, then it would be a nice competitor for the cls, panamera etc…
