BMW is set to start production of its 2017 diesel models. In August 2016, the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency has approved the sale of new 2017 model year BMW diesel vehicles in the United States. In July, BMW of North America said that the BMW’s 2017 diesel lineup for the U.S. market is being delayed due to extra scrutiny from federal agencies.

Now, production of diesel models for the U.S. market is scheduled to begin shortly.

“Diesel models will be going into production shortly at our manufacturing plants,” Rebecca K. Kiehne—product & technology spokesperson at BMW of North America—told Green Car Reports.

Production “had been deferred until testing had been completed,” Kiehne said.

The current diesel lineup in North America includes the 328d Sedan, 328d Sports Wagon, X3 xDrive28d and X5 xDrive35d. A future BMW 5 Series diesel is also planned for the U.S. market.
