According to a BMW production schedule we have seen, the BMW M235i Coupe goes into production in November of 2013 and if nothing changes in BMW’s product strategy, we will see the M-tuned 2 Series Coupe on U.S. soil. We initially reported on the M235i back in June 2012, but since then several prototypes have been spied during their testing phase.

Built on the F2x platform, the 2 Series coupe and convertible models are being separated from the 1 Series family. The more premium offerings will share some design cues with the 1 Series Hatchback (especially inside), but overall, the 2 Series Coupe and Convertible are expected to look and feel sportier than the hatchback.

The 2 Series vehicles will be driven by a rear-wheel drive architecture with the possibility of the coupe to be paired with the xDrive system.

Launched last year, the M Performance Automobiles line-up consists of several vehicles tuned by the M Division, considered to be “very sporty and fast, made for everyday driving.” Shortly after its market launch, the M135i has become a darling of automotive journalists, so the bar has been set high for the M235i Coupe, a car that will be heavier than its “younger brother”.

BMW will build the M235i model at the Leipzig plant.
