BMW uploads a new video to Youtube. The latest footage showcases BMW chief designer, Adrian Van Hooydonk, who talks not only about the new generation 1 Series, but also about the design process at BMW.

This past summer, BMW launched the second generation 1 Series. The rear-wheel drive F20 1 Series will continue to be positioned in the entry-level luxury premium market where it will compete with the offerings from Audi, the A3, and Mercedes-Benz with its A-Class.

The new BMW 1 Series features two lines: Sport Line and BMW Urban Line. Both offerings add scope for personalization using exclusive interior and exterior design features and equipment.

Interesting interview. I think these two guys represent a very large percentage of buyers. Their questions were very relevant and to the point. But regardless, the 1 series is a very desirable car, no matter which trim you choose.

1 series in all it’s brilliance is still not a pretty car to me. Just a few details could have turned it into a looker, but they ultimately failed with the design

why is this guy at Bmw ??/ to make all bimmers look the same ?? BMW please fire this Van Hooydonk till it’s not too late…i am big BMW fan , but today they are turning out to be just as Audi….same car , just different name ….3-5-7 series = same car

a 3 series owner doesn’t want a 5 series , also a 5 series doesn’t want a 7 …we are different people , and you made for us the same car…the old 3,5,7 series had personality , the cars were different because WE the buyers were different ,Bangle really understood what BMW is all about…… now everything has gone Audi style…same car with a lil bit more space….

I’m sorry, but I think Chris Bangle interviews were far more interesting. Van Hooydonk seems to always be reading off a script and he rarely has anything insightful to say. While Bangles designs were polarizing, he talked about car design like it was an art or philosophy, I miss that kind of insight that went beyond just business/marketing.

Agree. Bangle was inspiring. Different personalities though. But in person, Adrian is fascinating to talk to. Him and Anders Warming. During one interview, Adrian drew a car on piece of paper to explain something to me. Cool to see how cars are born.
