The BMW plant in Spartanburg, South Carolina, has reached a new milestone. The 3.5 millionth BMW made in Greer is a Mineral White Metallic BMW X4 xDrive20i and is powered by a 2.0-liter, 4-cylinder engine and equipped with Mocha Nevada Leather interior. The X4 is headed to a customer in Fuyang, China.

In March 2015, the Spartanburg plant delivered its 3 millionth car to a customer in Sweeden and before that, the 2.5 millionth BMW went to BMW of San Antonio. The first millionth BMW produced in South Carolina was delivered in June 2012, six years before the plant opened its production lines with a 318i model.

BMW-Spartanburg-35millionth

In 2015, the factory produced a record 400,904 vehicles, making it the largest BMW plant in the world by volume. The plant produces more than 1,400 vehicles each day. BMW Spartanburg makes the BMW X3, X4, X5, and X6 vehicles, and the upcoming X7.

In 2015, BMW announced the expansion of its Spartanburg plant. The $1B investment is scheduled to complete this year when the South Carolina-based factory will begin producing 450,000 vehicles annually – up from today’s 350,000 units. Last year, it built a record 400,904 vehicles — topping that of any of its factories in Germany, BMW says. More than 280,000 crossovers made in Spartanburg were exported.
