‘It all started with a tweet’ seems to be a more and more common phrase these days. However, it’s not a cliche if it’s true and in the case of the video posted below, it’s is Elon Musk’s tweet that is the culprit here. Earlier this year, he tweeted that the Tesla Model 3 Performance will take on and beat every other car in the segment. Of course, that was a bold claim against cars like the BMW M3 and Mercedes-AMG C63 S but then again, the electric powertrain of the Model 3 did make it a favorite.

The guys from Top Gear took that to the heart and decided to test things out, with the capable Chris Harris behind the wheel. Earlier this year we saw the cars in a drag race where, surprisingly, the Mercedes-AMG C63 S won. I’ll have to point out that the running distance was increased to give conventional cars a chance against the instant torque of the Tesla. Nevertheless, that was a win for internal combustion engined cars.

However, they didn’t stop there. They also pushed for a couple more tests and this week the video of the challenges the Model 3 Performance was put through was published on Youtube. The cars that went against the Tesla included an Alfa Romeo Giulia QV as well, one of the best in the segment right now. It was the Italian that ran against the American in the agility test, as it was deemed more agile than the M3 by Chris Harris.

And the Model 3 managed to beat the Alfa on the agility course by about half a second, even though Harris does point out that it felt a lot heavier and less composed. The instant torque helped it conquer the competition though and the final result showed it. So where does that leave us? Well, it seems like the Model 3 Performance made such a good impression, Harris tweeted after the show that he would get one, just to get acquainted with electric vehicles.
