There is very little doubt that upcoming BMW M3 will be quite different in terms of exterior design to the standard 3 Series. It would be quite a peculiar move for BMW, as the German car maker usually keeps the design of the M cars pretty close to the standard cars. It looks like the new generation M3 though will make an impact when it comes out. If you didn’t like the 4 Series Concept and its huge grilles, you’ll probably be disappointed in the new M sedan too.
The latest video of the upcoming G80 M3 on the Nurburgring shows the car in what looks like production guise. Sure, there’s plenty of camo to go around, but we can still make out the fact that this is a production model. Most likely, this is the final shape of the car and the front-end shows a couple of very long bars behind the camo, going all the way from the hood to the middle of the bumper. That’s definitely close to what we’ve seen on the 4 Series Concept.
Leaving the design bits aside for a moment, the upcoming M3 is set to be quite something if we’re to believe the info we have at the moment. Under the hood we’ll find the new S58 3-liter straight six engine you can get today on the BMW X3 M and X4 M models. It will also have two levels of power, with over 500 HP for the Competition versions. For the first time in history, the M3 will also be offered with an all-wheel drive system.
The biggest news is that the manual gearbox will live on, making the M3 a truly rare bird. We don’t have an official confirmation yet but chances are we’ll have a few choices on the table, regarding where the power goes and through what kind of gearbox. From a rear-wheel drive manual choice to all-wheel drive automatic, this M3 is shaping up to be quite revolutionary.
