Now that the BMW G05 X5 is out and the world is taking a moment to observe all of its qualities and design cues, one question is starting to form inside the collective mind of BMW fans worldwide: what about the X6? The design of Sports Activity Coupe models is usually quite strongly connected to their Sports Activity Vehicle brethren and therefore, skilled renderers can already bring up accurate takes on how the G06 X6 can shape up.
The thing is, we’re pretty far off from seeing the car become reality. As a matter of fact, we haven’t even seen prototypes of it out on public roads or the Nurburgring, which means there’s still a lot of work to be done in the lab before launching the new SAC out into the world. According to our own sources, the new X6 is set to arrive somewhere in mid 2019 and the car will be launched as a 2020 model, as the F16 X6 is going out of production in July 2019.
The new X6 will be offered with a rear-wheel drive setup in the sDrive40i guise but that will be the exception to the rule. All other models will come with all-wheel drive, from the xDrive40i to the M50i which will be using the same 4.4-liter twin-turbo V8 as the M850i xDrive scheduled to arrive on Saturday. Inside the cabin we’ll see the same design as on the X5 but there will be an essential difference between the two as BMW is reportedly going to offer the “Iconic Glow Kidneys” optional feature for interested customers. Your guess is as good as mine regarding what that will entail exactly.
As for the rendering at hand here, the author is the same behind the X5 M and Alpina XD5 renderings shown earlier this week, Aksyonov Nikita. In this instance as well he missed a couple of elements. For example, the BMW X5 and X6 model always had considerably different taillights and the ones used on this X6 rendering are just taken straight off the X5. Chances are, the production X6 will most likely borrow a lot of the styling of the taillights used on the current X4.
