One of 2016’s most unfortunate celebrity deaths, among the far too many, was Prince. As an all-time great musician, one than spanned several genres and sold millions of records during his career, Prince’s death was one that shocked and saddened the world. During a very divided time in the world, I think we can all agree, fan or not, the world was a little bit brighter with Prince in it. Turns out, though, that he can actually get cooler than he already was, as he was a pretty big car guy and owned a few cool BMWs.
An inventory of Prince’s estate was recently taken and a pretty interesting car collection was found. When you think celebrity car collections, you probably think Jay Leno, Jerry Seinfeld, the late Paul Walker and probably a couple others. There’s usually a bunch of high-priced exotics, some priceless classics and maybe even a few oddballs. But Prince’s car collection might be the most random bunch of cars I’ve ever seen and has more cars from the ’90s than today.
In the strange group of cars, you will see things like a 1993 Ford Thunderbird, 1995 Jeep Grand Cherokee, 2011 Lincoln MKT, 1985 Cadillac Limo and a 1999 Plymouth Prowler. We don’t know when Prince acquired these cars but it almost seems as if he just bought them when they were new and popular and never got rid of them. However, there are a few really cool Bimmers on the list as well and he had more BMWs in that collection than any other car brand.
A 1996 BMW Z3 Roadster starts off the list and it would be pretty damn cool to see Prince driving in a Z3. But he also had a 1991 BMW 850i, one of the cooler Bimmers of that era. The 850i was one of the best looking cars of its time and BMW stuffed a V12 under its wedge-shaped hood. Awesome. But it doesn’t end there. The best Bimmer Prince owned was a 1984 BMW 633CSi, which is a classic. Those shark-nose good looks and that brilliant straight-six engine make it one of the coolest coupes of the ’80s. And Prince owned one, so it’s super cool now.
