Not long ago, the MINI community got all stirred up once again when rumors of a possible MINI sedan model surfaced the interwebs. Back then, MINI’s own product manager said the sedan is a possibility they are looking at to see if it could be viable on the long run. Since then, a number of other officials spoke out and kind-of dismissed the chances of it happening.
A new rendering from X-Tomi Design, once again proves that MINI boss Peter Schwarzenbauer was right when he said the design team just can’t find a way to create a sedan that would fit the brand’s image. Creating a compact sedan using the design cues a MINI traditionally wears is a tricky business, to say the least.
Not one rendering we’ve seen so far could be called ‘good looking’ or even ‘acceptable’ by that matter. From a business standpoint, a sedan could probably be a profitable model in certain markets. In China, BMW’s largest single market at the moment, the sedan is the most popular body style and offering a premium model in the MINI range would be a good, daring step forward towards meeting the demands of the market. We’re hoping that if the sedan doesn’t happen at least the Rocketman concept or the Superleggera should be allocated more resources and maybe even enter production.
