Third generation BMW X6 is still years away, but the rumormill has already begun to churn out some details. According to German magazine Auto Zeitung, the next X6 will arrive in 2021 and will bring significant design and technological changes.
For starters, the Sports Activity Coupe will weigh less than the current F16 X6 which tips the scale at around 2100 kilograms. The weight savings would be achieved through a body made of a mix of steel, aluminum and carbon fiber. Premium features like laser lights will also be offered for certain X6 models.
For the first time, BMW is likely to offer a hybrid variant of the X6 which could use an updated version of the platform currently found in the X5 xDrive40e.
Autonomous functions will not only be at the core of the new X6, but also other models. So expect the next-gen Sports Activity Coupe to feature even more advanced self-driving functions as the ones found in the new 7 Series.
