What would you buy? BMW M6, Porsche 911 or Mercedes-Benz AMG GT

BMW M6 Porsche 911 or Mercedes Benz AMG GT 750x500

BMW M6, Porsche 911, Mercedes-Benz AMG GT. Which car would you pick in that segment?

I’m constantly thinking of what I would do with all my money if/when I invent some brilliant mobile app and sell it for 100 million dollars. Obviously, the first thing would be to drive to the nearest car dealership of choice and get a brand new car.

Preferably something fast. Very fast.

Most people who finally make big money go for the usual; the Porsche 911.

Admittedly, I think 911 first as well. It’s a wonderful sports car and is definitely one of the best out there.

If I were to go the 911 route and money wasn’t an option, I’d go Carrera GTS, RWD with the 7-Speed PDK. That will get you a 3.8 liter, flat-six making 435 hp and can go from 0-60 mph in 3.8 seconds. This would be my ideal 911, but then I start thinking about other cars.

Like, for instance an M6.

Nothing like a twin-turbo, 4.4 liter V8 with 556 hp to combat the Porsche’s 3.8 liter, flat-six. The M6 has 560 hp and will hit 60 mph in 4.0 seconds. While more of a fast GT car than an all out sports car, the M6 is definitely an interesting proposition. It’s just as fast as the 911 and can handle almost as well, but it’s more comfortable and better looking. The 911 would trump the M6 on a track, but who’s really gonna take these cars to the track?

Another alternative to these two, would be the newcomer from Stuttgart.

Mercedes has released its new AMG GT S, to compete with the, ever so popular, Porsche 911. With a twin-turbo, 4.0 liter V8 making 503 hp and can rocket to 60 mph in 3.5 seconds, making it the fastest car here. All while making a very distinct AMG burble. It also has lovely, classic sports car looks. From what many journos have said, the AMG GT can hang with the 911 in the twisties, but it isn’t as pure or balanced. Nor is it as comfortable or as good a GT car as the M6.

Each car has its own distinct advantage; the Porsche is a lithe back-caynon corner-carver, the M6 is an ultra-fast, GT car and the AMG GT is really, very fast. It’s hard to pick just one, as all three are excellent. So if I had to choose, for the money, I’d say screw it and buy a BMW i8. This way I get a sporty, comfortable, fast GT car that gets far better fuel economy than any of those three.

So there you have it; I have three choices and didn’t pick any of them. Which car would you pick in that segment?
