Ahead of its world premiere at the 2011 Shanghai Auto Show, the new 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe was presented to selected journalists in Munich. Our friend Damon Lavrinc of Autoblog, gets an early sneak peek at the new 6 Series Coupe and the car is just as stunning as in the official photos.
The 2012 BMW 6 Series Coupe goes on sale this Fall and at launch it will be available in the 650i and 640i models. The U.S market will initially receive the flagship 650i. In Europe, BMW is expected to also launch a diesel version of the 6er, most likely the 635d. The M-Sport package will also be offered at launch time.
A recent design analysis by our Hugo Becker says that “the 6er coupe, in this author’s estimation, is better looking than the drop-head version. Frankly the shorter rear deck and the dramatic slope of the rear light, are the reason it appeals more to this writer’s eye. The proportions seem perfect on the 6er coupe.
The addition of a horizontal character line that defines the rear spoiler and runs through into the C-pillar is another nice touch. And that line is picked up in parallel by the horizontal line that runs along the top of the rear bumper back into the rear wheel well area.”
BMW announced that the 640i coupe will cost 74,700 euros in Germany. US pricing for the 650i Coupe is rumored to start at around $90,000.
Stay tuned in the next day for more exclusive news from Munich!
