BMW releases a new commercial of the top seller 3 Series. Featured on the Travel Channel, among other stations, the new 3 Series video features the 2011 models, including the facelifted 3 Series Coupe and Convertible.

Successor to the BMW New Class, the 3 Series has been produced in five different generations and in no less than five different body styles. It is BMW’s best selling automobile and it first appeared in 1975.

The first model, E21, was produced from May 2, 1975 (1977 in the USA) through 1983. Originally a replacement for the BMW 2002, the first 3-Series was a two-door sedan model only. A factory authorized cabrio version was also built by Baur. The series was superseded by the BMW E30 platform.

The E90 is the currently available generation, which debuted as a sedan (E90) and wagon (E91) for the 2006 model year, coupe (E92) and cabriolet (E93) for the 2007 model year[citation needed]. It is completely re-engineered from the E46, including changes to engine.

The 3 Series has been on Car and Driver magazine’s annual Ten Best list 19 times, from 1992 through 2010, making it the longest running entry in the list.[5] The E90 was named “Best New Sports Sedan” in the 2006 Canadian Car of the Year awards. Also, it was awarded the World Car of the Year at the New York Auto Show in 2006. BMW emerged as the brand winner at the International Engine of the Year Awards for 2007 with its award in the 2.5 to 3.0 liter segment won by the 3.0 litre twin turbo engine, which is found in the BMW 335i.

    I really like this commercial. It gets the brand back to its roots. There’s a lot of people who don’t like BMW/Merc/Etc because of they get too associated with people trying to signal career and financial status, or those flailing about in that status game. This does a great job of rebuilding credibility among people who would – except for that fact – appreciate it for being a capable sports car and having a racing heritage.

      I absolutely agree with you. I simply hate that image that somehow ‘wannabes’ always buy BMW etc. As a BMW enthusiast I have always liked this brand because of its true value. I can’t believe some of the comments here regarding that. Because of my job I am always travelling back and forth from Europe and I can tell you that BMW image there is very different from here. BMW in Europe is mostly a respected brand and certainly people consider it very elegant yet sporty. I loved one BMW ad in Spain that said “If you buy a BMW to brag about it, you might have not understood anything”. (“Quien compra un BMW para presumir, quizas no ha entendido nada”).

    This is an AMAZING commercial. It makes me want to go out and buy a BMW again. I used to have one and now I remember why I LOVED that car. As soon as my current lease is up next month I am going back the “Beemer”. AWSOME ad BMW! Nice work and thanks for reminding me about my favorite car!

    People with brand new BMW’s should have a history with or knowledge of BMW. Simply answering “where did my car come from?” Love this commercial because it shows the beginning of the 3 series with the e21…would be nice to see one of the 5 series..
