The 555-horsepower BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M now feature variations of exclusivity and individuality.

With the extension of the program, the BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M will now be available with; BMW Individual Paintwork, BMW Individual Extended Leather Trim Merino, BMW Individual Interior Trim, Soft Close function for doors, DVD system at rear, 6 DVD Changer and BMW Internet. The BMW Individual X5 M further comes with a panorama glass roof, while the BMW Individual X6 M comes with an electric glass roof and is available as a 4+1 seater version.

Established in 1991 as a division of BMW M GmbH, the BMW Individual program is poised at leading the trend towards more individuality by concentrating on customers who are looking for made-to-measure solutions and making tougher demands on their BMW in terms of distinction, design and function.

“BMW Individual is synonymous with technical ambition and the desire for automotive perfection. Apart from offering a holistic vehicle concept with a broad range available to the customer for each model series, customers are able to select and put together their own personal combination of high-quality materials to create a harmonious composition of paints, leather and interior trim,” said Mr Neil Fiorentinos, Managing Director of BMW Group Asia.

“With BMW Individual program, BMW fans will now be able to turn their beloved cars into a subtle statement of their personality by adding in their own personal touch aside from settling for the standardized version.”

High Performance Re-Defined:

BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M.

Now the discerning customer has the opportunity to enjoy the unique high-performance character of a BMW M car also in the segment of BMW X models: The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are the first all-wheel-drive models to offer the supreme performance, dynamic driving features, athletic design, and premium quality of a typical BMW M Car.

Both models are powered by a high-performance V8 engine delivering 555 hp at an engine speed range between of 6,000 rpm from an engine capacity of 4,395 cc. The BMW M TwinPower Turbo engine is indeed the world’s first power unit with a common exhaust manifold encompassing both rows of cylinders and featuring Twin Scroll Twin Turbo Technology.

BMW’s intelligent xDrive all-wheel-drive system is naturally geared to the specific power and performance characteristics of the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M, just like Dynamic Performance Control also standard on both models. Interacting with the cars’ special M suspension including Adaptive Drive and the Servotronic power steering, this ensures the driving behavior so characteristic of a BMW M Car, combining unique driving stability with precisely controlled steering qualities all the way to the highest level of driving dynamics.

The BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M set the benchmark in this segment of high-performance models in terms of acceleration, lateral dynamics, steering behavior, stopping power, and efficiency. Both models accelerate to 100 km/h from a standstill in 4.7 seconds and stand out not only through the truly impressive delivery of power by the V8 turbo engine providing maximum torque of 680 Newton-meters in the broad speed range between 1,500 and 5, 650 rpm, but also through the likewise smooth and consistent build-up of lateral forces meeting the highest requirements and the most dynamic level of performance in bends.

The exclusive character of both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M results to a large extent from a level of driving performance unique in this particular segment. Both models offer the ultimate in their segment in every respect, providing performance and dynamic driving reserves quite unique versus the competition and ensuring an experience of unlimited supremacy in everyday traffic.

BMW M TwinPower Turbo: Twin Scroll Twin Turbo Technology with a joint exhaust manifold for both rows of cylinders making its debut in the market.

Power and performance typical of BMW M is delivered by the power unit specifically developed for both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M featuring the BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology. The BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology is developed on the basis of Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology and the exhaust manifold extending over both rows of cylinders patented by BMW offer absolutely extreme response and spontaneity, a linear build-up of engine power, and an unusually consistent torque curve.

The two turbochargers are positioned together with the catalytic converters in the V-section between the two rows of cylinders. The position of the intake and exhaust ducts provided in this way serves to reduce the length of the pipes and manifolds and increase their cross-section, with pressure losses on the exhaust side being significantly minimized in the process.

The joint flow of exhaust gas provided by the common manifold system connecting two cylinders at a time also ensures optimum gas throughput. The separation of exhaust flow is continued until the exhaust gas reaches the turbine wheel, building up ongoing pressure on the two Twin Scroll Turbochargers not impaired by any kind of counter-pressure.

With maximum charge pressure amounting to 1.5 bar, the use of Twin Scroll Twin Turbo technology with its inter-cylinder exhaust manifold makes unique use of the turbo-charging potential.

Immediate, direct response to the gas pedal and truly exceptional pulling force from the engine starting at low speeds and continuing consistently to the highest load level characterize the BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology from BMW M GmbH. The truly impressive development of power ensured in this way is accompanied by fascinating engine sound accentuating the fast-revving engine characteristics and the linear build-up of power by a supreme acoustic effect typical of a BMW M Car.

Reflecting the superior power of the engine, the high-performance V8 power unit comes with a cooling system developed specifically for the two new models. One special feature in this context is the indirect intercooling effect serving to optimize performance under particularly dynamic driving conditions.

The power unit in both BMW X5 M and BMW X6 M featuring the BMW M TwinPower Turbo technology develops the outstanding output and performance with equally outstanding efficiency. In addition to direct fuel injection with High Precision Injection technology, both the BMW X5 M and the BMW X6 M are equipped with a wide range of technologies from BMW EfficientDynamics. Apart from Brake Energy Regeneration, these also include on-demand control of the electrical fuel pump, a detectable a/c compressor, as well as a volume flow-controlled supply of hydraulic fluid to the anti-roll system also operating specifically on demand.

Both models offer average fuel consumption in the EU test cycle of 13.9 liters per 100 kilometers. Their CO2 rating is 325 grams per kilometer. And last but not least, the engine naturally fulfils all the requirements of the US LEV II standard as well as the EU5 requirements in Europe.

The BMW Individual Paintwork

In line with the understatement embodied in the BMW design language that governs all model series, the experts at BMW Individual always try to harmonize each customer’s wishes with the BMW philosophy. The individual paintwork is more than a color: It captivates its customers through its unique brilliance and sophisticated iridescent effects. Thanks to a fine pigmentation, changing nuances appear, depending on how the light falls, which give the surface a new dimension and depth. The intrinsic excitement of the color black is demonstrated in three variations: including Azurite Black metallic, Ruby Black metallic and Citrine Black metallic. When it comes to avant-garde exterior colors: the elegant, light shades of Pearl Silver metallic preferred particularly by buyers in sunny regions: Under blue skies, this paint finish shines with a special glamour.

The BMW Individual Leather

The Merino leather used by BMW Individual is characterized by its uniquely refined appeal, extreme durability and comfort. Gentle tanning methods and “barrel pigmentation”, in which the dye penetrates through intensive rotation and is not just applied to the surface; give this material its richness of color, strength and durability. The living structure of this leather comes from its natural graining rather than artificial embossing. The finish applied in the semi-aniline process stops fading caused by light, and yet the leather stays breathable. The combination of all these sophisticated yet gentle processes produces seats that are as soft and as smooth as velvet. BMW Individual will offer customers five color choices of Merino leather: Platinum, Champagne, Slate, Criollo Brown and Amaro Brown.

BMW Individual Interior trimmings.
It’s the many details that make the difference with BMW Individual. The interior trimmings made from piano varnish are the most sophisticated finish. The black, high-gloss polished surface is only achieved by famous piano makers using a time-consuming polishing and finishing process. This is what gives this varnish its unique brilliance. Elegant highlights are added through details such as the center console and ceiling grips. No less sophisticated
alternatives are interior trimmings from high-quality woods such as, Eucalyptus, Walnut or Piano Finish Black – all of which comes with a high gloss finish.

A photo of the super sporty X6 M appears for the first time on in the German magazine Auto Zeitung.

For starters, the BMW X6 M with Performance Parts features the CSL-like paint scheme on the sides, similar to the M3 Coupe decals kit available in the catalog.

Other upgrades for the X6M include a carbon fiber lip for the already massive front spoiler, special M wheels and a carbon fiber trunk lid.

There is no official word on whether the X6 M also receives power upgrades, but we expect seeing a new exhaust system and fitting parts that will increase the overall power output.

More information next week live from Frankfurt Motor Show.

To make things even more interesting, SékouWrites asked his partner Holly Reich to deliver a female’s review of the male-oriented X6.

HE SAYS:
There isn’t a bonding experience quite like the family road trip. So, when BMW’s brass laid out a challenge during my X6 M test-drive in Florida (“Why not try to set a record for most miles driven on a loan?”), we made it a family affair. Every day, one of us would chart a new course, from local destinations, like golf courses and outlet stores, to farther reaches, such as a cousin’s wedding in Savannah.

Through all the miles we racked up, the X6 M impressed each of us for different reasons. For me, the trademark comfort and speed of a typical BMW were second only to the gadgetry. I loved the automatic windshield wipers and the fact that the car accessed my cell phone’s address book, making it easier to return phone calls while on the road. My stepmother appreciated the precision of the navigation system with realtime traffic info, especially since we were often driving in parts unknown. And Dad liked the fact that people kept stopping to look at it.

…

SHE SAYS:
The BMW X6 M is a boy’s car. With seating for four, the all-wheel-drive SAC (sports activity coupé), replete with 20-inch wheels and high-performance tires, doesn’t just look virile—it is. That aside, the X6 M has a fastback shape that doesn’t sing BMW. In fact, my doorman asked what kind of hybrid it was. Yet it drives like a BMW. This baby accelerates from a standstill to 60 mph in just 4.5 seconds. There are also three power modes: sport, for a quicker throttle response and energized shift changes; drive, for relaxed driving and better fuel economy; and manual, where the transmission can be shifted using either the shift level or the steering wheel–mounted shift paddles. BMW’s four-wheel-drive system, xDrive, improves traction and maximizes handling (like oversteering and understeering) for all road conditions with an advanced technology that BMW can explain to you later.

In an unique and surprising article, the US magazine places the BMW X6 M against some unusual competitors: Cadillac CTS-V Wagon and Porsche Panamera. And if that wasn’t odd enough, taking them at the drag strip to see who comes out on top is just simply the icing on the cake.

Before we have a look at the video, let’s see some highlights from their review:

You know the old line about the inmates running the asylum? Well, the asylum’s been handing out engineering degrees, and the inmates are now running BMW, Cadillac, and Porsche. Meet the Unicorns — three cars, in the words of Raoul Duke, too weird to live and too rare to die. Each is a manifestation of a novel concept: maximum performance mated to oodles of capacity and practicality.

All three vehicles are also patently absurd, in the very best possible sense of the word-so bizarre that we had to road-trip them to the only American city capable of standing up to this trio’s epic level of whoa: Las Vegas.

…

If the four-door Porker is the fall of Rome, the BMW X6 M is Incitatus, the horse Caligula appointed senator. This beast makes no sense. Consider that the X6 M weighs nearly 5200 pounds, yet comes with a 555-horsepower twin-turbo V-8. That’s 55 horses more than the Porsche. All that grunt combined with such a chiseled and aggressive exterior makes the most controversial M badge ever a true highway menace. It’s a real middle finger of a monster blowing up your rearview mirror. And we like that.

But you have to wonder, did BMW go far enough? The X6 M weighs 2.5 tons and seats only four while returning very poor fuel economy (14.6 mpg on our watch). If that’s not anti-social, I don’t know what is. But why stop there? If you’re going to be the bane of the environmental movement, if everyone who sees you driving your own personal attack truck is instantly, automatically going to hate your guts, best to keep your right foot down, right? Why not make the X6 M a single seater? Better yet, why not a single seater with center steering? And instead of doors, how about a roof hatch? There’s way too much useable storage space (25.6 cubic feet, almost 10 cubic feet more than in the spacious Panamera). BMW ought to — I think — fill the rear of this gnarly puppy with lead. Seriously, why not?

The first BMW M to launch with an xDrive (more are rumored in the future) came to market in 2009 along with its twin-brother, the X5 M, and it has proven to be a great seller in some parts of the world, including Eastern Europe and the Middle East.

In the U.S. sales have been satisfactory and the X6 M came to compete in a niche with the also powerful Porsche Cayenne Turbo S. We first had the opportunity to drive the X6 M back at the Road Atlanta race track in summer of 2009.

MotorTrend delivers a fun and insightful review, and here is an excerpt from it:

“A BMW executive takes a large lump of money and a small lump of hallucinogens and hands both to a group of engineers with the following instruction: “Go nuts.” Sometime later — after the passing of key statutes of limitations — the BMW X6 M appears.

The hulking and incredibly fast red aberration you see here provides a rolling look into their madness. The engine, for example. BMW has a twin-turbo 4.4-liter V-8, but these engineers figured 400 horsepower simply wouldn’t do. So on went new pistons, camshafts, turbochargers, and a modified cooling system, amongst other things. The engineers finally settled on 555 horsepower, a number so convenient they might as well have called it “enough.” They then programmed in a launch control system, because what good is a 5181-pound SUV if it can’t accelerate like a Cadillac CTS-V?

“Wait a second,” you might think. “What about the Cayenne Turbo?” Yes, both are monstrously silly, twin-turbo SUVs. But lo, the BMW is quicker. Reaching 60 mph in 4.0 seconds and the quarter mile in 12.5 seconds at 110.8 mph, the X6 M dismisses that comparatively sensible Porsche by three-tenths. How? With the transmission in manual mode, all that’s required from the BMW driver is that they press the inconspicuous “M” button on the steering wheel and flatfoot both pedals. And when the checkered flag appears on the dash, they sidestep the brake. As the all-wheel drive jettisons the X6 M from its place of rest, the transmission takes care of the upshifts — the driver is merely along for the ride. (Helpfully, the owner’s manual suggests that you not use launch control when towing a trailer.)”

This time, the German tuner shop takes the already powerful BMW X6 M to a whole new level. Dubbed TYPHOON S, the tuned up X6 M now produced 725 horsepower, a 170 ponies more than the stock X6 M. The 725 hp come at 6,000 r/min and 890 Nm of torque at 1,500 RPM. The maximum torque is electronically limited in order to avoid overloading the standard transmission. In combination with a reinforced transmission, a maximum torque of se 1,000 Nm can be achieved.

The TYPHOON S features a wide-body kit that enables an increase in cooling performance of up to 15%. The car sports the now G-Power iconic elements: large air intakes, dual air vents on the bonnet, carbon fiber parts and oversize 315/25 ZR 23″ tires.

On the exhaust side, a full stainless steel G-POWER system (also available in titanium) delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust gas pressure.

More details can be found in the press release below.

The X6 M modified by G-POWER boasts a TYPHOON S body kit, a titanium exhaust system and an output of 725 hp. The TYPHOON S body kit, derived from the TYPHOON wide-body kit, enables an increase in cooling performance of up to 15% for the 4.4l V8 twin-turbo power unit in the BMW X6 M, paving the way for an increase of 170 hp in base output, taking it to a formidable 725 hp.

The first thing that stands out about the G-POWER X6 M TYPHOON S is the redesigned front skirt that completely replaces the original part. Designed to emulate the G-POWER TYPHOON wide-body kit, the front skirt with large air intakes delivers the characteristic aesthetic of the BMW X6 M. The carefully honed profile also facilitates a reduction of aerodynamic lift on the front axle. Another factor in the balanced look of the X6 TYPHOON S is the G-POWER bonnet made entirely from carbon-fibre. Equipped with a central Venturi-effect engine bay vent for cooling while in motion and two lateral ABS grilles for stationary ventilation, it ensures improved dissipation from the engine compartment of hot air generated by the two turbochargers.

The G-POWER add-ons to the standard sills provide a visual transition between the wheel arches, which are filled with forged 3-part G-POWER SILVERSTONE RS aluminium wheels measuring 11×23 and 12×23 inches (also available in 22-inch). When it comes to tyres, G-POWER sticks resolutely to 315/25 ZR 23 high-performance rubber from its development partner Michelin. They deliver optimum traction and sporty handling that is further enhanced by G-POWER sports springs and a stance lowered by 30 mm.
The package is rounded off at the back of the G-POWER BMW X6 M TYPHOON S by the diffuser made entirely of carbon fibre. It provides the perfect frame for the 4 x 125 mm tail pipes on the G-POWER titanium exhaust system, which are also made from carbon-fibre.

In keeping with the dynamic look of the BMW X6 M TYPHOON S, G-POWER also offers a suitably impressive power increase to 725 hp. Thanks to the enlarged air intakes in the front skirt and the vents in the bonnet, there is an increase in the flow of cold air to the water and oil coolers at the front of the vehicle. This improves their cooling performance by around 15% each, forming the basis for a thermally stable power increase using one the electronic optimization techniques developed by G-POWER to modify the engine mapping, including removal of the top speed limiter. On the exhaust side, a full stainless steel G-POWER system (also available in titanium) delivers the necessary reduction in exhaust gas pressure. Alongside the use of sports catalytic converters, this is largely attributable to the flow-optimised G-POWER exhaust manifold. Optimised connecting channels also run between the turbochargers and cylinder heads to minimise pressure and shock losses. The outcome is an additional 170 hp, taking the total output to a formidable 725 hp at 6,000 r/min and 890 Nm of torque as of 1,500 r/min. The maximum torque is electronically limited in order to avoid overloading the standard transmission. In combination with a reinforced transmission, a maximum torque measuring an immense 1,000 Nm can be realised.

The enormous power potential of the G-POWER modified BMW V8 twin-turbo power unit imbue the X6 M with performance levels that catapult it into the very upper echelons of its class. The sprint to 100 km/h takes just 4.2 seconds, while top speed is more than 300 km/h.

If required, G-POWER can finish the interior to individual specifications with handmade leather and Alcantara upholstery.

The Supersprint catless downpipes give the already fast and loud X6M further enhancements, both in the acoustic and performance areas.

Letting the X6M’s twin turbos atop the motor breathe easier through the Supersprint pipes means 2 things: greater power and some added sound as well!

For the rest of the exhaust, Precision Sport chose to use Supersprint connecting pipes and x-pipe, as well as the Meisterschaft titanium GTS muffler for an aggressive look and tone, along with weight savings.

The completion of this round of performance upgrades for the X6M is an Active Autowerke performance software flash, performed in house at their facility in Orlando, Florida. Along with AA, Precision Sport will be pioneering an ECU tune for X6M without catalytic converters to achieve greater horsepower than the standard off-the-shelf flash available for X6M.

The company revealed an aero kit that enhances the already sporty and aggressive M SAV.

This week, the tuner unveils the VRS Aero Package, along with an extensive photo gallery and footage. The new photos reveal the aggressive front-end we have seen in the teaser shots. The tuner specialist opted for a carbon fiber front spoiler which increases downforce on the front axle while also channeling more air towards the engine and brakes.

An all-new power dome sculpted vented carbon composite hood complements the front spoiler and extracts heat from the twin turbo engine bay.

To complete the rear aerodynamic package is the carbon add-on rear deck lid spoiler that elegantly contours around the lines of the factory boot lid while balancing the additional down force of the new front end.

A carbon fiber diffuser replacing the plastic factory piece dominates the rear, encompassing three modular fins and two vents. The latter cool the exhaust system.

The car sits on Michelin PS2 tires wrapped around forged mono-block aluminum alloys.

Pricing is unknown at the moment.

The new program follows the steps of the X5M by Mansory revealed last month. Just like the X5M twin, the Mansory BMW X6M package includes an impressive power upgrade to around 670 HP / 493 kW and a 950 Nm of torque at 5900 rpm.

The Mansory BMW X6M can run from 0 to 100 km/h in 4.2 seconds and can reach a top speed of 300 km/h.

Press Release: Soon after the presentation of the individualized BMW X5, MANSORY Switzerland AG, with its sister model the BMW X6, presents in society the second Bavarian automobile to be the fortunate object of a comprehensive revamp. An exclusive bodywork, performance and interior program has been developed and gives the SUV coupe a definitely more sporty appearance.

Just as with all previous vehicles, with the BMW X6, MANSORY has paid close attention to the precise fit of parts while at the same time bearing in mind a sporty, individual design. The perfectly harmonizing details turn the high demands which MANSORY makes on itself and on its products into reality and transform the wide-bodied Bavarian into a real eye-catcher. Due to a new front spoiler with larger air intakes and an extra light bonnet made entirely of carbon which, with its ventilation channels, optimizes air flow to the front engine, the MANSORY X6 already looks a lot more brawny when you catch sight of it in the rear-view mirror.

This impression is reinforced even more by the widened wings which flow into the newly designed side skirts and give the vehicle around 70 millimeters more width at the front and 80 millimeters at the rear.

At the back a newly designed skirt comes into play using an integrated diffuser which has room for four stainless steel exhaust pipes from the MANSORY sports exhaust system. A roof spoiler for additional contact pressure and a rear spoiler lip give the MANSORY X6 more stability at high speeds. Nearly all the aerodynamic components are fabricated by the engineers from high-tensile polyurethane (PU-RIM) and from prepreg autoclave carbon, characteristic of MANSORY. In the process, the preformed carbon-fiber parts are
given a permanent shape in autoclaves by the effects of vacuum and heat which guarantees a perfect surface finish with low weight.

So that the overwhelming visual presence is given appropriate backup, MANSORY treats the BMW X6 M’s production engine to a performance upgrade. At around 670 HP / 493 kW and a huge torque of 950 Nm at 5900 rpm, the MANSORY X6 surpasses the original figures by a long chalk (production engine: 555 HP / 408 kW and 680 Nm at 1500 – 5650 rpm). This leap in performance is made possible by using an entirely new exhaust system complete with exhaust manifold and perfected engine electronics. The performance, too, benefits from these modifications. In a mere 4.2 seconds, the MANSORY X6 makes it from a standing start to main road speed and thanks to a Vmax override reaches a top speed of 300 km/h.

Contact with the road is via distinctive MANSORY light alloy rims. These improve the handling and highlight the vehicle’s appearance. The M10 silver-finished, cast, monoblock wheels are equipped with 315/25R23 tires which make for the right surface grip. With progressively wound sports suspension and an adapted height adjustment, at the same time the vehicle’s center of gravity is lowered by around 40 millimeters so that the 23″ wheels fill the wheel arches. Larger brake discs and a multi-piston brake system to improve the deceleration values of the MANSORY X6 are already at the trial stage.

With the ergonomically, newly designed MANSORY Sports steering wheel, MANSORY Switzerland offers customers a special feature for the vehicle interior. Just as for all other MANSORY vehicles the same applies to the BMW X6: the customer can compose his own quite personal vehicle interior from the practically endless combinations of leather, Alcantara, wood, carbon or aluminum trim and just about any technical gadget imaginable. The in-house MANSORY leather workshop is always available to turn the customer’s wishes into reality.

Bold statement: 687 hp & 319 km/h!

Doubtless, it takes some degree of nerve to approach a vehicle of the calibre of an X6 M. The über-SUV is powered with a V8 twin turbo engine as standard, which develops a fat 555 hp and 680 Nm of torque at a maximum charging pressure of 1.5 bar. And when liberated from its burdensome electronic speed limiter, the X6 has the capability to run up to a speed of 275 km/h.

Impressive performance specifications – equivalent to those of a supercar. Doping for the V8 twin turbo!

Günther Manhart, of course, is not impressed by those numbers; he has been something akin to an inofficial pope at BMW motors for many years. Thanks to his many years of experience with the Bavarian engine constructors, the X6 M V8 twin turbo engine proved no exception to his ability to quickly find efficient ways of increasing the performance of an engine.

Thanks to an overhaul of the engine electronics, including DME control, and a catalytic conversion including modifications to the converters, the power of the 4.4 litre V8 is increased to 687 hp, which at a tare weight of 2380 kg amounts to a power to weight ratio of 3.4 kg per hp. With that, the Manhart M6XR sprints to 100 km/h from a standing start in just 4.7 seconds, and achieves an unbelievable top speed of 319 km/h. A version with more than 700 hp is planned within a short time which, equipped with new exhaust manifolds, will break the 900 Nm barrier.

Something that is also conducive to the power of the car, of course, is the new stainless steel exhaust system, with four 90 mm tailpipes and two 200-cell HJS racing catalytic converters. Four Manhart RS sports rims ensure optimum contact with the bitumen, all at 11J x 23 in size and fitted with 315/25 ZR23 tyres.

With the sports chassis, developed and manufactured by Manhart, the centre of gravity of the X6 M is approx. 30 mm lower, which is of particular benefit to handling in tight corners. Optimum deceleration of the 2.4-tonne sports SUV is ensured by a high-end braking system with 395 mm discs and six-piston calipers at the front, and 375 mm discs with four-piston calipers at the rear.

There is the option of a full-leather interior with Alcantara roof and door linings, to go with the characteristically clinical interior of the X6 M, as well as numerous Klavierlack double-coat clear finish trimmings.

AC Schnitzer not only gave the BMW X6 M more power, but also a tailored race outfit of carbon.

Front spoiler, rear roof spoiler, rear wing, rear diffuser and design elements for the front skirt and chromed front grille give the X6 M an impressive and muscular appearance. As an option, the carbon Bonnet Vents with chromed centre web complete the sporting look.

A real highlight is the new AC Schnitzer Bonnet Top of carbon with plexiglas panoramic window through which the engine is permanently visible.

For the X6 M – 1.98 metres wide as standard – AC Schnitzer has adapted the FALCON wheel arch extensions so that the BMW body gains an extra 40 mm width each side.

Inside, several conversions take place. The instrument panel – speedo and rev counter with AC Schnitzer logo, white dials, red pointers and red lighting – gives the X6 M a speedometer display up to 360 km/h.

The carbon interior trim and the AC Schnitzer steering wheel spokes in new “black Exclusiv” design and the AC Schnitzer aluminium cover for the i-Drive system controller, aluminium footrest and pedal set, and velour foot mats, round off the interior package.

The 670 hp/493kW horsepower and 300 km/h fast TYCOON EVO M, made its debut at the Geneva Motor Show last March.

The standard amount of horsepower is achieved at 6,000rpm, with a peak torque of 680Nm (501lb-ft) available from 1,500 to 5,650rpm. The party ends at 7,000rpm.

The Tycoon Evo M runs from 0-100km/h (62mph) in 4.7 seconds.

Here is an excerpt from their review.

“Hamann’s improvements with respect to the engine shed a different light on these figures. The technical program includes a stainless steel high performance exhaust system with metal catalysers and a newly programmed map for the serial motronic extending the speed limit up to 300km/h. They kept the standard common manifold system. The improvements offers 670hp at 6,000rpm and 780Nm torque at 1,500 – 5,650rpm. This is an increase of 115hp and 100Nm compared to the serial version. From 0 to 100 is improved by half a second up to 4,2 seconds. If requested, Hamann can boost the engine up to a point that 3,6 seconds from 0 to 100km/h is possible.

Not only the performance increase is noticeable after an initial drive, but the exhaust track sounding through the sedan cabin of the SUV is new to any existing X6 M driver. The soundtrack of the high performance exhaust system is similar for both systems available and improves over time due to the kilometer-age covered. The test vehicle was equipped with the center exhaust setup including to massive end-pipes. A second system with pipes on either side of the vehicle is available as well. The sound inside fills the cabin with a reasonable volume level that increases in tone when the twin-turbo kicks in. At higher speeds it is music in your ears not even in the interior but also for the spectators feeling the mastodon passing by raising the hairs on the back of their necks.”

Conclusion.

Overall coming to a conclusion is not really difficult in the case of the BMW X6 M. The German manufacturer has made a big, tall, heavy, sedan-looking truck that handles like a performance car, but we are wondering why this was needed. It doesn’t look like a proper a M vehicle, it only handles like one! It is just insane and ridiculous, so what is the point?

Hamann however adds exactly that bit of missing flavor to the existing package making it 100% extraordinary.

The engineers in Winterlingen, Germany, have finished a slightly revised design on the Lumma Design CLR X 650 M, maintaing the same widebody look and super-duper aggressive stance.

Along with the exterior revisions, the CLR X 650 M comes with a power increase to 670 horsepower. Torque, which had been expected to max out at around 830 Nm, will instead peak at 850 Nm. This represents over a 20 percent boost in horsepower, and a 25 percent improvement in torque when compared to the standard BMW X6 M.

A new exhaust system with quad tailpipes increases the performance. BMW X6 M by Lumma is now capable of reaching speeds of 194 mph (312 km/h).

Exterior upgrades include new rear skirts and wing, and side gills. The three-section front spoiler includes daytime LED runners and flared fenders. A new carbon and Kevlar hood is also attached.

The CLR X 650 M was dropped by 45 mm. Racing IV alloy wheels were then added. The 9.5×20-inch units are wrapped in performance tires.

We expect to see the revamped Lumma CLR X 650 M at the upcoming Paris Motor Show.

To some people the new “twins” X5 M and X6 M represent a blasphemy to the M brand, but there are plenty other drivers that enjoy the performance of the first xDrive M model.

In a drag racing event that we certainly do not condone, the BMW X6 M stopped the clock at 12.5 seconds after running 1/4 miles.

A quick refresher, BMW X5 M and X6 M are powered by a tuned up 4.4 liter V8 M engine delivering 555 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 500 lb-ft of torque from 1,500 to 5,650 rpm. The engine uses the twin-scroll twin turbo technology with High Precision Direct Injection. By positioning the twin-scroll turbochargers together with the catalytic converters in the “V” section between the cylinders, it minimizes the turbo lag and offers better fuel efficiency.

The X M models come equipped with Dynamic Performance Control, special M suspensions and Adaptive Drive, along with a new Servotronic power steering and Active Roll Stabilization system.

Shifting in the BMW X6 M or X5 M is very precise and quick, two qualities that certainly help in these type of drag races.

The reviews of the X6 M have been contradictory at times, and while some journalists feel “hurt” by the xDrive M SAV, there are plenty others that are impressed with its qualities.

Our own test drive took place on track at Road America and we concluded the review with the following sentences:

“So let’s check our findings against BMW’s definition of the X6 M: agility – checked, dynamics – checked, response – checked, feedback – almost checked.

YES, in our opinion and based on what we heard from other journalists, the BMW X6 M is a true Motorsport vehicle and even the purist BMW fans should be proud to have the opportunity to experience something different without fearing that it diminishes the M brand. In the end, a successful car company should always be searching for new segments to tap in or simply, to create new ones.”

Last week, Detroit News took their turn at reviewing the X6 M and some bits from their article can be found below.

“BMW refers to the X6 as a sports activity coupe but that has always felt disingenuous. The vehicle has more doors (five) than seats (four), and its gangly body makes it look like a lunar rover. The X6 seems to have an identity crisis.

But after a day of driving the X6 M, I realized you just can’t spell Adam’s Apple with an M. Looks aren’t everything; even in today’s hyper-shallow world.

Somewhere south of Saginaw, I was well over the suggested speed along Interstate 75. It was pouring rain and there were semi trucks in the left and right lanes in front of me.

Splitting big rigs on the edges of three lanes is never fun. Add to that the blinding wall of water both kicked back, and I thought I might be trapped behind them all the way to Grand Blanc.

But then I tapped the aluminum paddle shifter twice, dropping the X6 M into fourth gear, and it roared with laughter — pulling all 555 horsepower from its 4.4-liter twin turbocharged V-8. I was through the crease faster than Barry Sanders.

The acceleration above 70 mph is fantastic. BMW includes a new twin scroll twin turbos with a crossover exhaust manifold, which obviously sounds very important. The result is a clean, efficient power boost that launches this vehicle whenever you want to. Who doesn’t want 500 pound-feet of delicious torque at his or her beck and call? People who don’t drive M’s, that’s who.”

And the iDrive system gets thumbs up as well:

After testing a series of BMW’s this year, I am starting to take a more German approach to the iDrive. Americans are just stupid.

Please don’t be offended by that if you are not the brightest LED in the headlamp, but there’s an owner’s manual in the glove box and not everything good in life needs to be figured out in three minutes with the lights off. The iDrive provides lots of function. It’s easy to operate and lets you keep your hand on the wheel while you’re doing it.

Full review

Pure dynamism with powerful lines – unmistakeably the “motorsport gene“: evident at first sight in the BMW X6 M. And the X6 M by AC Schnitzer is even more powerful and sporting.

The Aachen-based tuning specialist is currently working on a performance upgrade which, in combination with delimiting the Vmax and a sports exhaust, will bring a further perceptible increase in the power of the X6 M.

And if that’s not enough, you can also opt for the carbon fibre AC Schnitzer engine styling. Even without a performance upgrade, the acoustic and visual attraction will be enhanced by the AC Schnitzer sports rear silencer with two chromed “Sports Trim“ tailpipe trims in right/left combination.

AC Schnitzer not only gives the BMW X6 M more power, but also a tailored race outfit of carbon.

The already sporting interior ambience of the BMW X6 M has been refined further in the Aachen works. The instrument panel conversion – speedo and rev counter with AC Schnitzer logo, white dials, red pointers and red lighting – gives the X6 M a speedometer display up to 360 km/h. The carbon interior trim and the AC Schnitzer steering wheel spokes in new “black Exclusiv” design and the AC Schnitzer aluminium cover for the i-Drive system controller, aluminium footrest and pedal set, and velour foot mats, round off the interior package.

The wheelarches of the X6 M by AC Schnitzer can be filled with 20″, 22″ or imposing 23″
AC Schnitzer wheels in Type IV BiColor, Type VII silver, black or BiColor, or the
AC Schnitzer forged alloys Type V or forged racing rims Type VIII BiColor. In combination with the 275, 315, 295 or 335 tyres, it’s easy for the driver in the cockpit to transfer the engine power to the track, and at the same time provide external evidence of the “motorsport gene“ of the X6 M by AC Schnitzer even when stationary.

While not the type of car that impresses on “regular roads” and daily driving, the X6 M truly shines on the race track, and we first experienced that last year at Road America where we put the new X6 M through tens of hot laps.

Winding Road magazine calls the X6 M a “Highway Missile”, and at the same time, “a well-mannered and stylish means of transportation for a niche group of customers looking for a combination of ability, fashion, and luxury.”

Has BMW found the perfect sauce for performance, versatility and fashion?

Unquestionably, the M-powered X6 has got massive cojones. The 555-horsepower, 500 pound-feet of torque V-8 is happy to catapult driver and passengers to unreasonable speeds in no time at all, offering the kind of guts-churning acceleration that one rarely finds in 5000+ pound crossovers.

Better still is the way the X6M is able to dispatch highway miles with silky pace. BMW offers a speed-warning feature in the car, whereby a driver may set an alarm that goes off when a set speed has been reached. We’ve found similar warning bells in other cars, but never have they seemed as needed as in this application. Without the initial, motherly “ding” to warn us at triple digit speeds, and the attendant warning symbol on the cool heads-up display, we would have had no trouble cruising down the freeway at license-revoking speed. This combination of a supple ride and near-endless power will render inattentive drivers “speed drunk” in short order. Cops, at least in our neck of the woods, tend to not care for that excuse (especially coming from the guy driving the $90,000 BMW).
