<p>Early last year, we started to see more and more BMWs featuring aftermarket matte colors or in some cases, a vinyl coat miming the matte look. A few months later, BMW unveils their latest gimmick: the exclusive Frozen Grey matte color.</p>
<p>In Frankfurt, BMW unveiled the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/09/16/frankfurt-auto-show-bmw-m6-competition/">M6 Competition</a> model featuring the aforementioned matte paint. Fast forwarding a few months later, a member of the <a href="http://www.m5board.com/vbulletin/e60-m5-e61-m5-touring-discussion/151805-2010-ind-individual-m5-new-modifications-2.html" target="_blank">M5board</a>,<em> Avlnch, </em>uploads some photos of the first <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/12/28/first-frozen-grey-bmw-m5-in-the-u-s/">BMW M5</a> featuring the new Frozen Grey paint. <span id="more-29219"></span></p>
<p>To stay on the same note, yesterday, new photos of the same car are being posted again, along with a lot of mods that have been used on the car.</p>

<p>BMW fans can be an eccletic, inventive bunch when it comes to their cars. In looking at most BMW enthusiast forums, you can easily find a large number of members who have modified their cars in at least some sort of manner. Whether it be short-shift-kits, the addition of Euro bumpers, or aftermarket wheels &#8211; BMW owners love to make their own cars unique and pop with personality. Even BMW <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/10/28/bmw-builds-an-m5-csl/">modifies their own cars</a> from time to time!</p>
<p>One user on <a href="http://mye28.com/" target="_blank">MyE28.com</a> decided to really set apart his late 80&#8217;s E28 &#8211; by turning it what can only be called a M5 CSL. In reading through the posting about the car, owner and forum member Matts Kinnby constructed his Frankenstein E28 for two purposes: to build something unique and to win races.<span id="more-27696"></span></p>

<p>To build the one-off CSL, Kinnby took the body of an E28 M535i, stripped out the interior and discarded the engine replacing it with a modified S38B38 &#8211; the 3.8L inline-6 from the E28 successor the E34 M5. Additionally, the home grown race car received special lightweight brakes and the obligatory straight 80&#8217;s-style 16 inch deep dish, gold BBS rims, a fully revised race suspension and big, fat racing tires &#8211; all topped off with an enormous, nearly cartoonish, period-piece rear wing. To complete the look of a true Coupe Sport Light &#8211; Kinnby molded from another E28 a custom front and rear widebody kit requiring that the rear doors be sealed shut to accomodate the intakes for the brakes and round out the full replication of the 3.0 CSL body &#8211; effectively making this a true coupe. The E28 has even been topped off with the very 70&#8217;s M tri-color paint scheme. For those with very sharp eyes will notice the side vents of the current E60 M5 to supplement the longer, thinner vents of the standard E9 CSL.</p>

<p>To top it all off, Kinnby and his crew took the impressive one-off Bavarian racing across Europe in older touring car and BMW Car Club events. While 2009 was a bit of a teething season for Kinnby and his group, they plan to campaign the unreal E28 throughout the 2010 season &#8211; with all of the kinks being worked out this custom M5 coupe should be a formidable adversary on the track. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The next generation BMW M5 is due out in 2011 and the not-yet released car is already creating huge buzz among BMW fans. But while the new M5 is rumored to bring out some <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/12/21/bmws-brave-new-world/">amazing technology</a>, the current E60 M5 is still here and it&#8217;s going stronger than ever.</p>
<p>The BMW M5 needs no introduction anymore and everyone acknowledges that the M5 has been, as Mr. Clarkson says also, “the ultimate sport saloon”….well, sedan as we call it here in the U.S. The E60 M5 is powered by the amazing and soon to be phased out, 5.0-liter V10 S85 naturally aspirated engine which produces 500 horsepower and redlines at 8250 rpm. Torque? An impressive 384 lb-ft (520Nm) at 6100 rpm.</p>
<p>Top speed is limited at  155 mph(250km/h). Official numbers show 0-60 mph(0-100km/h) at around 4.5 seconds, but we&#8217;ve heard of people that have done better.</p>

<p>Power is transmitted to the rear wheels through an equally innovative 7-speed sequential manual gear box that uses Formula 1 technology to shift much faster than would be possible with a manual gear box. For the true enthusiasts, a manual transmission is being offered at no-cost.</p>
<p>Another innovative feature in the E60 M5 is the BMW M Drive system that allows the M5 owner electronically to select the level of damping desired (comfort, normal, and sport), with electronic steering assistance tied to damper setting. In addition, the system allows selection of three levels of engine power and throttle response, several shift-program settings on the SMG gearbox, and variable dynamic stability control settings.</p>
<p>Some of these features and even more, will continue to be offered in the F10 M5.</p>
<p>While we&#8217;re not ready to retire the current M5 yet, we&#8217;re still fans of the several tribute articles we&#8217;ve seen lately, including the video above published by Motor Trend.</p>

<em>Avlnch</em>, a member of M5board, has recently placed an order for an Individual Frozen Grey Metallic BMW M5, the very same color that made its debut at the Frankfurt Auto Show back in September, at that time, on a <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/09/16/frankfurt-auto-show-bmw-m6-competition/">BMW M6 model</a>.</p>

<p>Looking at the photos below, we have to admit we&#8217;re a bit jealous to see that combination and we certainly look forward to more unique BMWs.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Celebrating your 18th, 30th and even 50th birthday is always something special, but what about when you reach 25? Is that a reason to celebrate? Well, it apparently it is by BMW&#8217;s standards since the M5 25th anniversary event has turned into a pleasant surprise for all the BMW fans.</p>
<p>The already almighty E60 M5 was the start of this event, but this was no regular M5 and rather a <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/10/28/bmw-builds-an-m5-csl/">CSL-like vehicle</a>. Now many of you might already start picking on the naming convention, in the end CSL stands for Coupe Sport Lightweight, but let&#8217;s look past that and focus on this exciting one-off model.</p>
<p>The radically redesigned and upgraded V10 engine moves up on the capacity scale to 5.5 liters. To accomplish this task, the highly strung, 90-degree unit has been enlarged with a longer stroke. After this revision, the engine needs more air flow that its predecessor and an additional air intake is fitted into the space where usually the front license plate would sit.</p>

<p><span id="more-22849"></span>Official horsepower and torque numbers have yet to be disclosed and may never be, but journalists present there mention around 600 horsepower and near 400 lb-ft of torque, a significant increase over the standard M5.</p>
<p>Unlike the standard E60 M5, the &#8220;special edition&#8221; M5 CSL, if we&#8217;re allowed to call it that way, receives a carbon fiber roof as seen in the BMW M6 and M3 Coupe. Beside the &#8220;cool-looking factor&#8221;, the CF roof top shaves off about 50 kilograms when compared to the regular model.</p>
<p>But the significant weight savings come within the interior cabin where the special model M5 loses its rear seating bench. At the front, the regular seats are replaced by two bucket carbon fiber seats, adding to the overall weight reduction.</p>
<p>Another small touches can be seen inside, but one that really stands out is the new BMW logo on the steering wheel.</p>

<p>The suspension has been also revised and adapted to represent the improved M car.</p>
<p>Based on all the upgrades, it is clear that the anniversary M5 model is much faster than the &#8220;normal&#8221; M5 and track numbers at Nurburgring Nordschleife come to confirm that: 7:50 minutes, at the same level with the BMW M3 CSL E46.</p>
<p>Unfortunately the anniversary model is not planned for production nor BMW has any intention to sell the only BMW M5 &#8220;CSL&#8221; ever built. Even though some already started to speculate on a similar engine powering the upcoming F10 M5, truth is that the new M5 will go the turbocharged router, most likely a V8 twin-turbo.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Along with the BMW M5 CSL and the never produced M5 Convertible, BMW unveiled to the journalists another M5 model that &#8220;didn&#8217;t make it&#8221;: M5 E39 Touring. While some photos surfaced on the web in the past, officially, no shots were ever released by M GmbH.</p>
<p>As part of the 25th Anniversary of the BMW M5, a few selected journalists, including our <a href="http://www.bimmertoday.de/2009/10/29/bilder-infos-der-bmw-m5-touring-e39/" target="_blank">BimmerToday</a>&#8217;s Benny Hiltscher, were invited to learn more about the M5 history. As Benny reports, the BMW M5 Touring E39 is powered by a 5.0 liter V8 engine that outputs 400 horsepower and a maximum torque of 500Nm or 368 lb-ft for those of us in the U.S.</p>
<p>Since some of you might wonder why such vehicle didn&#8217;t make it into production, we asked around and it appears there were some problems with the rear axle. By M standards, the dynamics of the car would have been acted differently. It was also assumed that the market for such vehicle would be relatively small.</p>

In 1989, Motorsport engineers developed an M5 convertible, with two lengthened front doors and seating for four. It really did come very close to production – a price of 50,000 GBP was agreed, and space was even booked at the Geneva Motor Show. But one week before its intended debut, BMW &#8220;killed&#8221; it, believing it would have led to a demand for non-M 5 Series convertibles, which might have dented drop-top 3 Series sales.”</p>
<p>Yesterday, in front of numerous journalists, BMW unveiled for the first time the hidden gem: E34 M5 Convertible. To mark the 25th anniversary of the M5 models, European journalists were invited at Nurburgring track in Germany. <p>Live virtually all convertibles built at that time, the BMW M5 E34 Cabrio has a soft fabric roof top and it is quite a looker.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Celebrating 25 years of M5, BMW reveals today at Nurburgring an one-off <strong>BMW M5 CSL</strong>. Our german editor Benny is on-site and will report more news in the next few  hours.</p>
<p>BMW’s Motorsport division buils a special lightweight version of the current E60 M5. The car is being described by M division’s head of development, Albert Biermann, as “the M5 CSL we never built”.</p>
<p>The almighty 5.0 liter V10 engine has been modified taking its capacity up to 5.5 liters. To accomplish this task, the highly strung, 90-degree unit has been enlarged with a longer stroke.</p>

<p>Official horsepower and torque numbers have yet to be disclosed, but Herr Biermann hints at around 580 horsepower and near 400 lb-ft of torque, a significant increase over the standard M5.</p>
<p>A carbon finer manifold increases capacity of the air box and a secondary oil cooler. The front bumper gets an additional air duct in the place where the license plate is usually situated.</p>
<p>Channelling the added reserves back to the rear wheels is a beefed up version of the M3’s seven-speed double clutch gearbox. The Getrag engineered unit, operated via steering wheel mounted paddles or push/pull gear lever, supplants the standard M5’s sequential seven speed manual unit, offering smoother and more rapid gear shifts.</p>
<p>Since CSL is all about decreasing the overall weight, the BMW M5 CSL receives a carbon fiber roof, reducing the weight by 50 kg.</p>
<p>The interior has been stripped down, rear seats have been removed while two carbon fiber seats replace the front ones.</p>
<p>No official performance numbers have been released yet, but Herr Biermann hints the M5 CSL did the Nurburgring track in under 8 minutes, 20 seconds faster than the regular M5.</p>
<p>Unfortunately for the BMW fans, the M5 CSL remains an exercise and there are no plans for a production car. &#8216;</p>

Then there are those who have a perfectly capable object or means, necessity no longer required, and they dare to question what if? What if we made it better, faster, stronger?&#8230;.</p>
<p>That idea then becomes an obsession, obsession turns to passion, passion to normalcy and you question the sanity of anyone asking why? Why are you doing this, doesn&#8217;t it seem unnecessary? The answer?&#8230;. YES! It&#8217;s the joy of being able to control unnecessary and make it a reality. Then that &#8220;insanity&#8221; becomes normalcy again to you and those who surround you that learn of your passion and it becomes standard, a benchmark if you will.</p>
<p>That is what BMW /// M is all about.</p>

<p>It&#8217;s about taking a perfectly capable coupe, sedan or truck and making it even better. Pushing it to the limit and slapping a smile on the faces of those who embrace it. BMW ///M is about taking the car to the brink of insanity, to the threshold of the &#8220;limit&#8221; and being able to hold it there and control it. That&#8217;s where your M cars differ from any other sports car on the road.</p>
<p>The BMW M5 is no different and remains true in every way to the mantra that is  BMW ///M. They have taken a mid-sized, family oriented sedan and literally made it a four-door sports car and they&#8217;ve been doing it for 25 years. The initial itch came from automakers Ferrari, Maserati and Lamborghini in that a weekend at the track usually meant a week at the shop. Not at all to discredit those cars for their outstanding merits and iconic racing history, but what BMW saw was potential to make a car that was capable of achieving the supercar numbers, without the supercar maintenance. BMW already had on their resume the iconic M1 as well as the E24 6 series coupe. The engine from the M1 and the suspension from the 6 series served at the thesis for the very first E28 M5. The first M5 debuted at the Motor Show in Amsterdam in 1985. Without a proper press release, marketing campaign or really any form of advertising at all the M5 went essentially unnoticed to the masses. Only those who were keen to the 535i E28 noticed the new aluminum wheels, small ///M badges, front splitter and rear end of the M5. At the time, the E28 M5 was the fastest production sedan in the world.</p>

<p>The North American version of the E28 M5 showed up state side in 1988 and boasted 256 bhp. In North America you could choose to have your M5 in any color you wanted so long as it was Schwarz Black with Natur Tan interior. Mostly because this was the only color the M5 was offered in. BMW quoted the NA version of the M5 of making sprints from 0-60 in 6.5 seconds and boasted a top speed of 148 mph. Certainly modest by today&#8217;s standards, the M5 at the time was every bit of track ready as it was family ready and it was this  E28 M5 that started the super-sedan wars.</p>
<p>In 1989, BMW followed up the E28 with the E34 M5 sedan. With the benchmark already set BMW knew they would have to out-do themselves so they did it the only way they knew how. Refine what we already have and add more power! Sounds like a plan to me! The E34 M5 was produced from 1989 &#8211; 1995 but, North America only got the chance to enjoy it from 1991 &#8211; 1993. Like it&#8217;s predecessor, the E34&#8217;s straight six and chassis was produced by the hands of ///M technicians. Interestingly enough, keen ///M techs could tell which technician made the car just buy the specific characteristics the particular E34 M5 had. German automotive bliss I tell you!</p>

<p>The engine of the E34 M5 was built upon the engine of the E28. Improvements included of course a bored out block for larger displacement, a new forged steel crankshaft, upped compression ratio, improved fly wheel, a Bosch Motronic fuel injector, equal length stainless steel exhaust headers, and three-way ceramic catalysts. The North American 3.5 liter engine produced 311 bhp.  Numbers on the E34 M5 were certainly nothing to sneer at boasting a 0-60 time of 6.4 seconds and a top speed of 155 mph.</p>
<p>1998 brought about one of my favorite M5&#8217;s to date, the E39 M5. The straight six used in all M5&#8217;s prior was omitted in favor of an all new 4.9 liter V8. I get chills just saying that! Unlike  ///M cars prior, this M5 was not built by the hands of ///M techs but rather on the same assembly line as the regular E39 5 series. The E39 M5 almost didn&#8217;t see the light of day as BMW, at the time, saw the E39 540i as being enough to satisfy BMW die hards. What prompted BMW to rethink their &#8220;concern&#8221; was the competition. At the time Jaguar and Mercedes had  plans to release the 365 bph XJR and the 348 bhp E55 respectively, on the automotive masses. So, BMW answered back with the 394 bhp E39 M5.</p>
<p>The E39 M5 made its debut at the Geneva Auto Show in 1998 but production on the car did not begin until late October of that year. Other than the highly tuned V8, some improvements over the E34 M5 included Double-VANOS, individual throttle butterflies for each cylinder, quad exhaust, a modified version of the 540i&#8217;s Getrag Type D six-speed manual gearbox, sport mode (which adjusted the throttle butterflies response time for improved performance) and four-wheel vented disc brakes. The E39 M5 boasted a 0-60 time of 4.8 and a top speed of 155 mph. It was the fastest four-door sedan at the time of production and some owners have claimed a 0-60 time of 4.5 seconds and a top speed of 180 mph.</p>

<p>Considered the 25th year M5, the E60 M5 was introduced in 2005. The most powerful of all the M5&#8217;s, the E60 sports a 5.0 liter V10 motor spewing out 500 bhp and has won the International Engine of the Year Award. No other car manufacturer, making a V10 motor, has ever achieve this award before. The E60 M5 features F1 inspired engine and transmission technology including launch control, dynamic stability control and an all new SMG III transmission. An &#8220;///M&#8221; button or power button sit on the steering wheel that offers access to three distinct driving modes: P400 (which limits the engine to 395 bhp for your daily driving pleasure), P500 (for a full serving of 500 bhp) and P500 S (which gives the driver the full 500 bhp as well was a better throttle response time). I&#8217;ll take a button that is stuck on P500 S please! The E60 M5 makes the run to 60 in 4.1 seconds and cruises at a top speed of  155 mph.</p>

<p>However, there are a few criticisms in regards to the E60 M5 and they revolve around the design cues from the Bangle era, as well calling the E60 M5 a fuel hog. Well, with BMW commanding a 20% fuel savings from the next M5 over the current one and Chris Bangle making his sad departure from BMW,  I would say the next generation M5 will certainly be a game changer. Look for the next generation 5 series to be fully unveiled next month with the next generation M5 making it&#8217;s way center stage mid-2010. Congratulation to BMW for having the vision to achieve automotive nirvana and for making one of the fastest sedans available for over 25 years!</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Our friends Kamil over at <a href="http://www.carguydad.com/official-entered-the-bob-lutz%E2%80%99s-cts-v-challenge/" target="_blank">CarGuyDad</a> just emailed us to inform that along with his friend Mike will be challenging the Cadillac CTS-V in the new marketing campaign initiated by GM: &#8220;May The Best Car Win&#8221;. Mike will be driving a 2008 BMW M5 and will compete against GM&#8217;s former vice-chairman Bob Lutz on October 29th at New York&#8217;s Monticello Motor Club.</p>
<p>So far, we have Jalopnik&#8217;s Wes Siler who signed up for the challenge along with a Jaguar XFR. The comparisons between the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/07/21/top-gear-bmw-m5-vs-jaguar-xfr/">BMW M5, CTS-V and Jaguar XFR</a> have been going on for months, both on track and straightline, but now it&#8217;s the time to show the public who is the king.</p>
<p>But this is not it, apparently the challenge was opened to other participants as well and anyone can sign up for it, as long as some conditions are met.</p>

<p>Now let&#8217;s take a look at the CarGuyDad&#8217;s M5:</p>
<p>2008 BMW M5 with SMG transmission. 13,000 miles, original tires and original brake pads. The Space gray car is pretty much fully loaded (read: heavy) with:</p>

<li>Comfort      Access</li>

<p>As Kamil points out, GM is clearly in for the win and some things will be at least debatable:</p>
<blockquote><p>Let’s be honest for a second here.<strong> GM would not make a challenge such as this opened to everyone if it was not in it to win</strong>. It will have cars that will likely be the pick-of-the-litter, with most powerful engines and least amount of optional equipment (less extra weight). These Cadillacs will also probably be equipped with new tires and new brake pads. In addition, I have a feeling, that there may be a few victory-ensuring tricks thrown in, such as some high-temperature-rated brake fluid, better brake pads, etc. No one will really know.</p></blockquote>
<p>But we&#8217;ll keep an eye on <a href="http://www.carguydad.com/official-entered-the-bob-lutz%E2%80%99s-cts-v-challenge/" target="_blank">this challenge</a> and we&#8217;re confident Kamil and his friend will make us proud, by us we mean the BMW fans. 			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The BMW M5 needs no introduction anymore and everyone acknowledges that the M5 has been, as Mr. Clarkson says also, &#8220;the ultimate sport saloon&#8221;&#8230;.well, sedan as we call it here in the U.S.</p>
<p>So, Top Gear decided to take the Ultimate Driving Machine, that being the M5 for those that were in doubt, against the the newly and somewhat highly praised <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2007/12/28/2009-jaguar-xfr-going-after-the-m5/">Jaguar XFR</a>. But before we jump into the 7 minutes or so video, let&#8217;s review the two cars from a technology standpoint.</p>
<p><strong>BMW M5</strong>: powered by the amazing and soon phased out,  5.0 literV10 S85 engine which produces 500 horsepower and redlines at 8250 rpm. Torque? 384 lb-ft(520Nm). Top speed is limited at  155 mph(250km/h). Official numbers show 0-60 mph(0-100km/h) figures at around 4.5 seconds.</p>
<p><strong>Jaguar XFR: </strong>powered by a direct-injected and supercharged  5.0 liter V8 engine outputting 510 horsepower and 461 lb-ft of torque.  Jaguar let the XFR loose with a top speed of 200 mph(320 km/h) &#8211; car tested by Top Gear stops at 155 mph. Official numbers say that the XFR runs from 0 to 60 mph in 4.5 seconds.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I have no choice but to cut off all the extra spending, entertainment, showgirls, gadgets, you name it, so I can start saving money before the next generation BMW M5 will come out in 2012. No seriously, not even kidding this time&#8230;&#8230;.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t often get super excited about new models, it usually takes a while for a new bimmer to sink in and be accepted by me, but the moment I saw this rendering of the F10 BMW M5, I just fell in love. The design lines are just rights, very masculine and muscular, a wide body, extremely aggressive but yet still appealing even to the most conservative BMW fans &#8211; yes, I&#8217;m one of them.</p>
<p>But what I love the most about this new rendering is the fact that it does NOT resemble in any way the new 7 Series. I honestly got tired of seeing all those photoshops of the next 5er being based on the bodystyle of the 7 Series.</p>

<p>As many people close to BMW have said, the cars are absolutely different and the only slightly similar design element are the headlights.</p>
<p><span id="more-14618"></span></p>
<p>The details on the next M5 are sketchy and the secret is well guarded behind metal doors in Munich, but what we can tell you at this time is that the BMW M5 will drop the famous naturally aspirated V10 engine in favor of a twin-turbo V8 similar to the one offered in the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/04/04/bmw-x6-m-and-bmw-x5-m-press-release-and-photos/">X5 M/X6 M</a>. If that will be the case, the M5 will have a little bit over 550 horsepower under the hood and will be going after the Audi RS6 and its 572 horsepower.</p>
<p>As far as the release date, historically the M model of the 5 Series, is expected a year later after the launch of the regular 5 Series sedan, so we should expect the new M5 in the first half of 2011.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Well, we have seen a lot of strange things posted on our blog in the last few years, right? I mean, we saw an <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/01/08/bmw-m5-touring-peel-me-off-please/">orange painted M5</a> and a <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2009/03/31/how-to-turn-your-car-into-a-bmw/">wannabe BMW</a>, but have you ever seen a gold plated M5? I didn&#8217;t think so&#8230;.neither did we.</p>
<p>So this gold plated BMW M5 was spotted on the roads of Moscow and quite frankly, it simply makes my head spinning just by looking at it. The  car has been creating a lot of buzz all over the web, some believe it&#8217;s an insult to a BMW car, others, more extravagant, like the show off look of this car and the yellow shine that makes it stand out.</p>

<p>As far as I myself, if I were to own a beautiful, classy M5, I think I will just leave it the way it is, no need to modify a car that has all it needs.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>One of the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/09/10/2009-cadillac-cts-v-vs-2008-bmw-m5/">most popular comparisons</a> on our blog has always been the one between the BMW M5, one of the fastest sport luxury sedans, and the runner-up from Detroit, Cadillac CTS-V, a less expensive vehicle that offers impressive performance.</p>
<p>The BMW M5 is powered by a 5.0 liter V10 engine producing 500 horsepower and 383 lb-ft of torque. Some drive tests revealed a 0-60 mph time of 4.5 seconds.</p>
<p>The runner-up CTS-V has a far more powerful engine under the hood, a 6.2 liter V8 with 551 horsepower and 551 lb-ft of torque. 0-6o time is around 4.2 seconds.</p>
<p>Price difference between the two aforementioned vehicles is quite significant, the M5 tested by the folks at Cars.com has a price tag of $94,000, while the CTS-V was priced at $60,000. Now let&#8217;s see how they stack against each other.</p>

<p>Courtesy of  the folks at <a href="http://www.bushautoblog.com/2009/03/lumma-bmw-m5-clr-500-rs-parked-at.html">BushAutoblog</a>, the Orange BMW M5, or by its real name CLR 500 RS, was found on the map right across from the Sheraton Park Tower in Knightsbridge, UK. The BMW Lumma CLR 500 RS is powered by a V10 engine that delivers 560 HP and it tops out at 203 mph.</p>

<p>As a trademark, Lumma painted their M5 in this orange color, liked by some, but disliked by many others. As far as myself, I prefer the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/wp-content/uploads/bmw_lumma-clr-500-rs_08.jpg">black matte finish</a> we&#8217;ve seen before.As BushAutoblog points out as well, the car is registered <span class="fullpost">in Dubai, which for some reason doesn&#8217;t surprise me.</span></p>
<p><span class="fullpost"><span id="more-11187"></span>Now let&#8217;s go back to that Google privacy thingy: what are the odds of seeing two orange M5s in a city? Slim to none&#8230;? So, if you own one, be careful where you&#8217;re going, so you escape from the Google&#8217;s eye, or even worse, your significant others.</span></p>

<p>The folks at <a href="http://www.mpt.org/motorweek/reviews/rt2829b.shtml">MotorWeek</a> took the afermentioned cars for a road test and let&#8217; see which one they chose:</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>The Audi versus BMW comparison articles have been increasing over the last year or so. While the Mercedes-Benz is considered a traditional competitor to BMW, Audi is more and more moving into that spot.</p>
<p>Many BMW officials have acknowledged several times that Audi is competing with them on all the segments and they are seen more and more as their primary competitor.</p>

<p>In the past, we covered many articles which put different BMWs and Audis head-to-head, like the <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2007/11/24/audi-a5-32fsi-vs-bmw-330i-vs-mercedes-clk350/">Audi A5 vs. 330i</a> or <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2007/11/18/comparison-2007-bmw-335i-2008-audi-s5-and-2008-infiniti-g37/">335i vs S5</a>.</p>
<p>Today, <a href="http://www.4ringblog.com/move-over-m5-i-want-the-s6.html">4RingBlog.com</a> goes a bit further and writes an article on the BMW M5 vs. the Audi S6. Of course, at a first glance, a fair comparison would have been between the M5 and the RS6, but unfortunately for the Audi fans, that model is not available in the U.S &#8230;..yet.</p>
<p><span id="more-10207"></span>So, let&#8217;s see what they have to say and soon, we will post our own comparison.</p>
<hr />&#8220;After the buzzer went off and we made our way back to the restaurant, I came across a brand new also-Phantom Black  S6 parked in front of the restaurant. After giving it a few walk-arounds, my family managed to pull me away and into the restaurant where we got a table by the windows that happened to overlook the exact spot where the S6 was parked.</p>

<p>I spent most of dinner studying the car  and decided that I absolutely love the exterior design of the car. Oddly enough, by the end of dinner, I’d decided I liked the C6-platformed S6 even more so than the current E60 M5. Surprising? Maybe, the M5 is currently the fastest, best-handling sport sedan available and I do like performance. However, it seems everyone has an M5, much less an E60 5 Series. I typically see 2 or 3 M5’s on the way to work each day let alone the dozens of 5 Series, a commute on which I rarely see an A6  and there’s never an S6 to be found.</p>
<p>&#8212;</p>
<p>This is what I love about the S6 though, it’s subdued nature. It carries the heart of a Lambo Gallardo, though detuned to about 435HP, it’s still plenty quick producing a 0 to 60 time in the Porsche 911/Cayman range all while seating 5 comfortably &#8211; but doing so with a very understated and sneaky exterior design.&#8221;</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>Let me start by saying that the BMW M5 is one of the best looking and most valuable BMW models. But went a tuner goes overboard and transforms the M5 into a Honda Civic look-alike, with some German features, then I have a problem.</p>
<p>We have seen the modded <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/12/22/g-power-m5-hurricane-achives-a-228mph-top-speed/">M5 from G-Power</a> with its 730 horsepower, so we know that it&#8217;s possible to have a fast M5 and still keep the classy look. But a Japanese tuner proves us wrong and takes the modding art to a whole nother level, by turning this M5 Sedan into&#8230;.well, I don&#8217;t even know what to call it.</p>

<p>Let me start bitching about the oversized &#8220;Supra&#8221; like mufflers that flask an air difuser. And if that wasn&#8217;t obvious enough, then the 5 ft by 1.5 ft wing sitting on the trunk, definitely makes me cringe.</p>
<p><span id="more-9052"></span>Now, shall we move upfront? Ok, here we go: tinted blue headlamp lenses. Should I even tell you how I feel about that?</p>

<p>Fine, I&#8217;ll give them this: for some reason, I do like the blue sport seats they have chosen.</p>
<p>I don&#8217;t have any information on the engine performance, but it&#8217;s pretty safe to assume that it packs more power than the standard version of the M5.</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<p>I couldn&#8217;t resist not posting these photos the moment I saw them. I mean, you don&#8217;t get every day to see an orange BMW, especially an M5 Touring. The weird looking orange painted M5 Touring was spotted in Stockholm, Sweden and initially it seemed like it just came out of the paint shop.</p>
<p>There was a rumor in the beginning that the car was not actually painted, but rather &#8220;dressed up&#8221; with a <a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/08/06/how-to-change-your-bmws-color-by-using-3m-tape/">foiling tape</a>, as we have seen in the past. I keep staring at the photos and I cannot wonder what went through the owner&#8217;s head, why would someone want to paint their car orange, especially a beautiful M5 Touring?!</p>
<p>Well, there are many strange things in this world, but who are we to judge the &#8220;<a href="http://www.bmwblog.com/2008/10/21/those-crazy-bimmer-fans/">crazy bimmer fans</a>&#8221; ? </p>
<p>P.S that Silver trim just doesn&#8217;t go with the orange paint.</p>
