Paris Auto Show: BMW 335i Facelift

I won’t talk again abou the 2009 BMW 3 Series sedan facelift and I would rather prefer let you enjoy these photos. All I have to say is that BMW did an amazing job with this facelift and the car looks MUCH better than before, closing that gap between the coupe and the sedan, when it comes to aggressiveness and coolness.

Any thoughts you guys might want to add?

Infiniti G37 Convertible: A Threat To BMW?

Infiniti is working on a competitor vehicle for BMW’s successful 3 series convertible models. With the Infiniti G35 and G37 coupe and sedan taking some market away from BMW in the last few years, the new Infiniti G37 Convertible will become a viable option for the buyers that are in the market for an entry-level luxury convertible vehicle.

The G37 convertible is packing some impressive features, starting with 328 horsepower coming from a 3.7 litel V6 engine and ending with a seven-speed transmission and a folding hardtop.

The teaser photos only show a side and rear profile, but based on that, what do you guys think? Will some bimmer fans jump over to the other side?

BMW has a V10 M5 out and Audi will be releasing the powerful twin-turbo V10 RS6. The next generation  M5 will be equipped with a twin-turbo V8. The BMW 335i is a twin-turbo outputting 300horsepower and is an amazing car, but in the same time Audi will respond with a new S4 powered by a supercharged six cylinder engine, 333horsepower.

Doesn’t it seem like Audi is really stepping up their game and trying to take on BMW even more than before? The funny thing is that BMW’s CEO  was quoted saying he does not even see Audi as a competitor, similar to what Michael Dell said to Steve Jobs.

A loss to the BMW Community…

Sad news to report. We have had a loss in the BMW Community. Particularly to those that have participated in BMW European Delivery. Thomas Heumann has died. Thomas was the cowboy boot wearing, cigarette smoking , always smiling face of EH Harms drop off agency in Garching Germany. This is the place many people that take European Delivery dropped of their car to be shipped back to the US or Canada. The information posted by Mr. Spira says that Thomas has died due to a cerebral aneurism. I was fortunate enough to meet Thomas once. This past Feb when my wife and I completed our European Delivery. Thomas was kind, courteous, and efficient.  Our thoughts are with his family during this sad time.

Test Drive: BMW 330d

I would like to welcome Mauro Corti as an official contributor for our blog. Since Mauro lives in Europe, he will share his passion for BMWs from an european perspective and teach us more about the european bimmers as well.

Hello good fellows of bmwblog.com, my name is Mauro and I’m here to tell you more about the new BMW 330d.
Some days ago a friend of mine called me saying he had been invited to a private test drive of the new BMW 320xd on the 21st of September and asking me to share the experience; how could i refuse it ?

When we arrived at the dealer we had a beautiful surprise, the 320xd was out for another test drive, so we had to drive a 330d… that was unfair right?

Well first of all let me tell you this: the car looks great, it is really nicer than in the photos, especially the hood and the taillights with the new LEDs; the front bumper, combined with the new frontlights with LED turn signals. All these little improvements have given the car a really aggressive look. The M-pack is simply amazing, I’ve had the pleasure to see a black sedan 3 Series equipped with it and trust me, it is really worth the money you pay for it.

BMW 335d shows up at the Performance Center

A member of E90post forums, Park2670,  has just returned from his BMW Performance Center delivery. Beside the great photos and story that can be found here,  he came back with a surprise for all the bimmer fans. He turned into a little spy photographer and managed to get some beautiful shots of a BMW 335d in the great Titanium Silver color.

But here is the interesting part: when he asked for the keys to check out the 3er diesel, he was told that it belongs to another customer who will pick up the car….NEXT WEEK. So now, I’m a little confused, will BMW really release the first diesels next week, keeping it under the table or was he just being given a false information?

Regardless, great photos, great little story and good spirit of observation.

Thanks Park2670.

BMW X5 Security

Just a month, BMW announced their latest gimmick- a custom made X5 with protection against criminal attacks or other dangerous situations. The model was named BMW X5 Security (very original, isn’t it? ) and it is powered by the 4.8 liter V8 engine that outputs 350 horsepower. The “beast” will go from 0-60 in 7.5 seconds, making it a perfect vehicle for getaways.

The X5 Security has been armored by the factory to protect its passengers against firearms, ranging from .44 and .357  Magnums, to 9mm Luger. The X5 comes with a VR4 safety class, a high-level of protection according to European standards.

The body panels have been reinforced with a ballistic-resistant armored fiber developed in the Netherlands. The windows are upgraded to laminated 22-mm thick security glass, a raid alarm which automatically locks all doors and a camera system with intercom keeps the passengers informed of what’s happening outside.

During an internal client advisors training that was held in Vancouver, BMW Canada confirmed that the long-awaited BMW 335d and X5 xDrive35d will be available in November. For the past few weeks, conflicting information were being published and I promised that I would not speculate on the launch date anymore for the U.S market, but we can assume that BMWNA will most likely release the diesels in the same time.

Our dear reader J M Wong attended the training and he kindly offered to share with us his opinion on the BMW diesels, and of course, to show us some new photos of the BMW 335d.

Personally, I find the 335d to be a bit boring because after driving the 335i, it is hard to drive a less power 3 series besides the M3 of course.

If a BMW client is looking for performance in a diesel, this is it. With 265hp and 425lb-ft of torque at 1,750 rpm, it makes the same kind of thrust as the 335i. I drove it pretty hard right of the start and find there is a little hesitation compared to the 335i.

What impressed me the most was the pull when you hit about 1,800 rpm you don’t feel like you are driving a diesel. As for the X5 xDrive35d, there is also a lot pull at about 1,800 rpm. It has more torque than my 2007 E70 X5 4.8i.

Awesome BMW 335D picture

Here is an awesome picture I found of the BMW 335d, thought you’d like to see also. Love the front bumper.

Article By CARversation.com

Our dear dear reader proXi has just sent an email to inform us that he will be taking delivery today of its long-awaited 2009 BMW 3 Series Wagon, of course, the new facelift model. The car in discussion is the 320xd E91, in a beautiful Alpine White color.

Just a few days ago, proXi was the first person to spot the 2009 BMW 3 Series LCIs arriving at the german dealerships and now, from what we know, he might be the first one to take delivery of a facelift 3 Series.

We should be back later on with a more detailed report from proXi, including a video demo of the new iDrive Navigation System.

Lucky germans, always get the goodies first :)

We are obvioulsy a few weeks away if not days from the time the 2009 BMW 3 Series facelift sedan and wagon will be available at the European local dealerships and the amount of new photos that keep poping up, is quite high.

There is really nothing to get excited over anymore, but hey….until I see it in person, I guess photos will do just fine. Again, the 2009 BMW 3 Series Sedan, this time in a Black Sapphire and Space Gray colors, was seen somewhere in Germany.

Based on the comments that I have seen yesterday on our other article, most of the people seem to dig the facelift and I have to agree with them this time. It is one of the most successful facelift that BMW showed us recently and without increasing the price by much, they managed to give the car a good value.

Will the new sedan exceed the amount of coupe orders? Probably not, but it will make the people feel less bad by choosing it. I know I would.

New iDrive System Review

Our friend Jonathan Spira has just posted an exclusive review of the all new, redesigned, improved, you name it, iDrive system. As we mentioned several times before, the new iDrive will be available on the 2009 BMW 1, 3 and 7 Series.

Just recently, we dedicated a full lengthy article on the new iDrive System and all the goodies that come with it. The article contains quite a lot of details as well and it’s a great read.

But until today, we haven’t had the opportunity to post a personal review of someone that actually spent some time playing with the iDrive and putting it to several tests. Jonathan was lucky to have this chance and he did a great job talking about the new features. On top of this, there are also two videos available showing the iDrive system in action.

I hope you will enjoy this and if you have any question for Jonathan, please feel free to leave a comment on the BMWCCA forum or here, he will respond to them promptly.

We were just informed that the 2009 BMW 3 Series Sedan and Wagon(facelifted models) started to show up at German dealerships. One of our dear readers proXi was kind to share them with us.

The two 09 3ers spotted were the E90 sedan and an E91 Wagon. The cars are debadged so we can’t really tell which models they are, but that’s probably less important now. We also hear that the U.S 3 Series should reach our dealerships in the second or third week in October.

The M-tech front looks pretty sweet but I’m sure it will not please everyone, us, the bimmer fans, tend to be very picky. :)

Thanks again for the great photos ProXi, we love the detailed shots focused on different body panels.
