Top Gear: BMW 760Li vs. Mercedes-Benz S63 AMG

I never got why so many people like this show. Obviously comparing a twin turbo V12 to an NA V8, the V12 is going to win performance wise every time. The feature comparison is good, and I can understand that they are trying to stay within the same price range, but performance wise (isn’t that what this show is supposed to be about, anyway?) is way off. They should have compared the 760Li to the S600.

It’s funny to see all the bench mark racers going on about their peak horsepower. Lets see how it performs on the track against other similar cars, and then bash it when it doesn’t beat some half a million dollar super car.

But while were bench mark racing, let’s throw in the Z06.

This is fantastic… and I’m not sure why so either. Maybe it’s the white color. Maybe it’s that subtle, what looks to be beige pin striping down the side. Maybe the extended size of the car gives it more elegance. Maybe I think it’s just because I’m biased towards the LWB version of the 7 series because I like the extra rear seating room it provides, and the elongated stance of the car. Whatever it is, I think it looks great in white. But the real question is, is it coming state side?

I really like the 335d, and I’d love to have one because of the torquey diesel engine, but I know I’m too big to fit in it comfortably. Either that or I just want more room than it has. So more than likely I’ll go all out and get a 760Li once I graduate from my trade school, and get a good paying job. Or an Alpina B7.

Yes, it is more important than having my own house :P

I don’t understand the GT thing… can’t they just offer a station wagon model with the 3.0TT engine for the 3 series, and the 4.8L V8 for the 5? With an extra premium package to add on to the one already listed?

Man, next thing you know, they’ll be making the 7-series coupe, the 6-series sedan (oh wait), the Z4X, and the 5-series coupe, complete with 6-series body paneling and… you get the idea.

For some reason every time something like this comes out, I wonder why they don’t listen to what the fans want, and instead just build a bunch of random stuff. Oh well, I guess it’s “business as usual” in our world today. Still doesn’t mean I won’t love their cars and bikes.

@Jag, Porsche built the Carrera GT, many liked but only a few could buy.

I still don’t care for it much. In my opinion, the sporty, rounded off front bumper takes away from the flat-front look that I prefer on my luxobarges.

Leave aerodynamics to the little sports cars, leave massive amounts of power to the land yachts.

Or maybe I’m just old fashioned *goes back to looking at his E38*

I have to agree. At first I hated this car, and I wasn’t sure why they would put such an atrocity into the market. I hated ever aspect of it, except for the interior. Then one day I set a picture of one as my desktop wallpaper because I liked the angle. Then the B7 sketch was leaked, shortly followed by spy pictures, and I loved it. Then I realized the B7 was no different from the regular model; it just had a chin spoiler, quad tips with some bumper underneath to make the tips look more flush with the body, the spoiler, and those giant beautiful wheels. Then I loved the car. I think it’s a masterpiece. If I had a job that would enable me to buy one of these pronto… I would have already.

BMW Sportscar Concept Study

Very out there and out-there styling. As a futuristic concept, I love it. As a BMW, I can’t stand it. I can see the BMW in it but all of the body cladding overpowers it. With a little bit of toning down I think this would make a GREAT super car… Call it an M1 or 8-series and I bet it would sell.
