Carwow does a lot of 360-degree POV drag race videos. They’re actually really cool to see, as they allow viewers to see just how much faster certain cars are than others. It gives real perspective of the speed of the cars in the drag races and the distances with which they win by. In this race, the BMW M5 Competition Package takes on the brand-new Mercedes-AMG E63 S and Audi RS5. The 360-degree cameras were mounted to the RS5, so we see the drag race from the Audi’s perspective and we can rotate the view of the camera 360-degrees from there.

On paper, this is an interesting drag race. The AMG and BMW are both big luxury sedans with stonking V8s, while the RS5 is a sporty coupe with a twin-turbo V6. Both the BMW M5 and Mercedes-AMG E63 S also make quite a bit more power than the Audi RS5. Despite that, the RS5 is actually one of the quickest vehicles here. Under the hood of said Audi lies a 2.9 liter twin-turbo V6 that makes 450 hp and 443 lb-ft of torque. As for the BMW M5 Comp Pack, it gets a 4.4 liter twin-turbo V8 with 575 hp and 500 lb-ft. The AMG uses a 4.0 liter twin-turbo V8 with 603 hp and 627 (!) lb-ft of torque.

As soon as the race starts, the Audi RS5’s Quattro grip and lighter curb weight allow it to jump ahead. It takes the lead quick but the AMG’s monster power soon overtakes the overachieving Audi. The AMG E63 S simply storms ahead, gaining a lead it not only never relinquishes but one that it keeps adding to. It’s as if the AMG never stops picking up steam. What a monster of an engine. Sadly for the BMW M5, it lags behind the entire race. While it has quite a bit more power than the RS5, the M5 just can’t catch up.

So the AMG wins the race, with the RS5 coming in second and the M5 lagging behind in a distant third place. It just goes to show the age of the outgoing F10-gen BMW M5 and its struggle with traction. The new F90-gen BMW M5 should be significantly faster and seriously challenge the monster from AMG.
