BMW seems to be focusing on bringing out enhanced versions of its M models in the future and it’s all starting with the M4 GTS and CS models. They are supposed to be the first in a line of many, creating a line up that emphasizes performance as you pay more money. The standard M model comes in at the bottom, followed by the Competition Package, the CS version and, at the top of the line the GTS model. What we’re looking at here is the BMW M4 CS.

As you probably already know, the CS is basically fitting in exactly between the GTS and the Competition Package version and it does come with a couple of interesting upgrades. The engine was tuned to make 460 HP while the torque figure went up to 600 Nm (443 lb-ft) of torque, all without water injection, the technology that sets the M4 GTS apart in the range. It was also tuned to be more track-prone while weight was cut by shedding some of the fat that wasn’t exactly essential.

While all that sounds enticing and the 0-60 mph time went under 4 seconds, the rival it’s going up against here will make it seem pedestrian. We’re talking about the Porsche 911 Carrera GTS here which does come with flat six engine, turbocharged, to make 450 HP and 550 Nm (406 lb-ft) of torque. On paper, both cars are equally fast but the video below does seem to show a rather big difference between them.

And while some suggested that this is a Carrera 4 GTS even in that situation the difference shouldn’t be that big, as the all-wheel drive model is just 0.1 seconds faster than its RWD brother. Our guess is that the launch was botched by the driver of the BMW M4 CS but then, once again, the video doesn’t seem to show things that way. This is, therefore, quite an interesting drag race and one that definitely took us by surprise.
