Some of the most radical and tasty race cars in the history of motorsport have come from MINI. I don’t care what anyone says about front-wheel drive, MINI racers are ace. Some of the more recent race cars to come from the famous British brand are the 2006 MINI Cooper S JCW GP and the 2012 MINI John Cooper Works GP. Now, debuting at the Frankfurt Motor Show, a MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept will act as a sort of vision for a new race car for MINI.

From the outside, this MINI GP Concept is one of the gnarliest, coolest MINI racers we’ve ever seen. The massive wing, fender flares that also double as aerodynamics and lower front splitter with air intakes so large, they looks like it they suck up squirrels and birds. Also, it says “MINI” on the tailgate in such large font it can be read from space. I also like the Union Jack LED taillights, which look pretty cool.

While the outside is sexy and exciting, the interior is stripped out and pure race car. It still looks cool, though. With its roll cage, fire extinguisher and racing seats show that this is a proper race car. The steering wheel looks cool, too, and the entire black, white and red color scheme looks interesting. MINI employed a new 3D stitching technique, as well as 3D printed materials, to make the cabin look so interesting.

It’s not exactly reserved, is it? But it’s not supposed to be, it’s a racing car concept.

“The MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept is all about the unfettered feeling of driving and levels of performance found in motor sport competition,” says Peter Schwarzenbauer, Member of the Board of Management of BMW AG, responsible for MINI, Rolls-Royce and BMW Motorrad. “This is driving fun in its purest form.”

This MINI John Cooper Works GP Concept is one of the more exciting cars that will debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show. It’s small, fiery looking and represents a racing heritage that stretches back over five decades. We’re very excited to see it.
