The BMW 2002 is not only the most iconic BMW ever built, but also a huge collectible in the automotive world. In 1968 BMW created history with the 2002. The original 2002 developed 100 hp from a single carbureted 1990 cc, four-cylinder engine. This was mated to a 4-speed manual and powered the rear wheels. Eventually, an automatic was offered, in 1969.
The 2002 managed to be faster, handle better and get far better gas mileage than almost all other performance cars of its day. On top of that, it had seating for five, a comfortable ride and was expertly finished inside and out.
Fast forward 45 years later and some of those 2002s still commend a high price on the used car market. A low mileage UK car (66K), Colorado Orange, matching numbers, restoration just completed and never driven was just listed on PistonHeads. The ad says that the restoration has been meticulously completed single handedly by a 2002 specialist and fanatic.
You can see from the pictures that the most of the brightwork has been replaced or refurbished and the seats re upholstered but that is all. Other than those items and obviously some consumable parts this car has all of its factory built components and fittings. In the boot the tool kit and jack are present, the spare tire is the factory fitted original. Even the gaskets on the engine are original and no oil leaks.
But all of these great things come with a price in this BMW 2002 which is listed at 50,000 British Pounds, or around $65,000.
