BMW UK hosted its 5 Series Touring press drives last week and used the opportunity to create another exciting photo gallery of BMW’s most practical touring to date. Like the rest of the new 5 Series lineup, the 5 Series Touring is a product of an all-new chassis that reduces the car’s total weight, and includes a whole suite of new technology that bring the 5 Series to the level of the flagship 7 Series.

Like its sedan sibling, the new BMW 5 Series Touring shares the same driver-focused cabin design with ample head, leg, and shoulder room that helps to create a roomy, airy cabin. The layout also comes with a host of technological components that help progress BMW’s aim towards autonomous driving; including Crossing Traffic warning, Priority warning, Lane Change Assistant, Lane Keep Assist, Evasion Aid, as well as Active Cruise Control with a Stop and Go function to be used in traffic.

Thanks to standard air suspension on the rear axle, the suspension of the new sports tourer can be optimally adjusted to any load condition. The rear seat, which can be split in the ratio 40:20:40, can also be unlocked from the trunk, together with many clever fastening possibilities, like the separately opening rear window and the tailgate opening.

We’d also argue that the new 5 Series Touring is better looking than its sedan counterpart. The long-roof model is incredibly handsome and packs one of the best interiors on the market into a practical body style. It’s hard to argue with that. Plus, it gets some clever features to make life easier. As-standard rear air suspension not only keeps the rear end tidy over bumps and through corners but it helps keep it level with a heavy load in the trunk. These are just some of the things that make the Touring a great car and are on top of how good the 5 Series is as a car.

The 2017 BMW 530d Touring is the only G31 variant available at the market launch in June with both rear-wheel and four-wheel drive. The remaining models 530i, 540i and 520d are only available with one of the two concepts. In the course of the year 2017 additional variants will certainly be added and more drive diversity will be ensured.
