Back when BMW debuted its Vision EfficientDynamics Concept, it left jaws agape at its stunning futuristic design. Yet journalists were unconvinced that its design would amount to any sort of production car, as radical concepts never really do. However, BMW proved everyone wrong when it debuted the BMW i8, essentially a concept car put into production. Its design barely changed for production and is easily one of the most beautiful cars on the road and certainly the most stunning.

It’s only going to get better, as well. BMW is currently in the works of creating a BMW i8 Spyder, a topless variant of its stunning hybrid supercar. We all knew it was coming, as the i8 platform is perfect for removing its top, being that its stiff carbon fiber construction won’t lose any rigidity without its roof. But while it won’t lose any rigidity, it will gain even more beauty.

BMW will be updating its styling just a bit, as it refreshes the i8 for 2018, but the i8 Spyder doesn’t need any updating to be gorgeous. The current i8 takes your breathe away when you see it in person. To see it without a roof will only make it even better. Not to mention how it will get even better for its driver, as they will be able to listen to the turbo I3 engine even more.

So many supercars look better sans roof. The Audi R8 Spyder, Lamborghini Huracan Spyder, McLaren 650S Spider and the Ferrari 488 GTB Spider all look better with their top down than their coupe counterparts. There’s just something sexy and exciting about a supercar without a roof and the BMW i8 Spyder could rival any of those aforementioned cars for style. Just imagine those futuristic looks with the top down and you’ve got a great looking supercar.

There also won’t be a single competitors in its segment when it debuts, at least as far as we know. At its price point, there isn’t another mid-engine drop-top supercar, never mind a mid-engine drop-top hybrid supercar.

We can’t wait until we get to see the 2018 BMW i8 Spyder in person. If the BMW i8 is one of BMW’s best looking cars, maybe even its best looking car, a slightly updated i8 with a removable roof will certainly be the best looking car in the Bavarian stable.
