The BMW M4 GTS is the most hardcore model the Germans ever made. Being a limited-run, track special version of the M4, we expected it to blow through some records and we weren’t disappointed. The guys from Auto Bild Sporstcars took one out for a run on the Sachsenring, their traditional testing ground, to see just how fast it is.

And even though they surely did a couple of lap times to see just how much of a difference all the changes from the standard model make, they also went for a top speed run to check out how fast the car accelerates. According to BMW, the M4 GTS goes from zero to 100 km/h (62 mph) in just 3.8 seconds, 0.3 seconds faster than the stock DCT-fitted M4.

That’s in part thanks to the weight that was taken off the GTS model but also due to the upgraded S55 engine with water injection that can deliver up to 500 HP and 600 Nm (438 lb-ft) of torque. The top speed of the car is limited to 280 km/h (174 mph) normally but can go up to 305 km/h (189 mph) with the M Driver’s Package. Unfortunately, there are few places around the world where you can actually go and test out that speed.

The car in the video below seems to be lacking the M Driver’s Package but we can’t be sure because as soon as the driver hits 280 km/h he starts braking, probably because he’s running out of tarmac. Either way, the performance showcased by the M4 GTS is rather impressive to be honest, accelerating in a haste being mildly put. Of course, a lap around the German track is included in the footage below but we don’t have an official lap time yet.
