As we reported on the 16th of the month, an executive at BMW Motorrad UK confirmed that a GS style derivative of the G 310 R is coming. A few days after we brought the story to you, the folks at RushLane.com released a rendering of what the baby GS might look like.
The rendering largely features design characteristics which one would already associate with BMW’s famed GS line-up. As the GS models are highly desirable to consumers, with the R 1200 GS being the brand’s most successful model, by far, this seems a very good strategy for selling a premium small displacement motorcycle, a segment which has traditionally been unsuccessful.
The new G 310 GS, like its sibling, the G 310 R, is to be built in India by motorcycle manufacturer TVS. It will too utilize the German engineered 313cc, single cylinder power plant. Performance figures for the new GS will largely depend upon the extent to which BMW tunes the engine for use in an adventure bike. Though excited by the confirmation of a very light and nimble adventure bike making its way into the company’s lineup, we have yet to even get an official number from BMW Motorrad as to how much the new G 310 R will cost. Also, we mustn’t forget the potential for a G 310 RR sport bike, which the rumor mill was suggesting would be unveiled prior to a GS model.
