A cement truck collided with two other vehicles Thursday morning, including a BMW i8 Protonic Blue. The crash occured near the 73 freeway offramp and Newport Coast Drive. Local reports say three people were hospitalized with life-threatening injuries.
California Highway Patrol officials said the collision happened at 8:42 a.m. between a gardening truck and a cement truck, causing the cement truck to tip over into southbound Newport Coast Drive lanes.
After the collision, the truck fell onto the BMW i8, according to Orange County Fire Authority Capt. Larry Kurtz.
A 50-year-old man and 49-year-old woman were taken with moderate traumatic injuries to Mission Hospital and the 50-year-old man who was in critical condition was taken to Orange County Global Medical Center in Santa Ana, where his condition began to improve, Kurtz said.
As you can see from the images embedded here, the i8 was severely damaged in one of the unluckiest crashes that can occur on the street.
