With just days before its world premiere at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show, the new BMW M2 makes another appearance, but this time in the official BMW brochure. The lengthy pamphlet takes us through the development of the M2 and what makes it one of the most exciting cars of next year.

BMW M2 features a 3-liter, 6-cylinder engine produces 365 hp and 343 lb-ft of torque, catapulting the high performance vehicle from 0-60 mph in 4.2 seconds.

The new BMW M2 can be ordered as an option with the latest generation of the seven-speed M Double Clutch Transmissions (M DCT with Drivelogic). This system, which effectively combines two gearboxes, each with its own clutch, is specially designed to work with the customary engine dynamics of M cars and the engine’s high torque and output.

A six-speed manual is standard.

With the lightweight aluminum front and rear axles from the BMW M3/M4 models, forged 19-inch aluminum wheels with mixed-size treys, M Servotronic steering with two settings and suitably effective M compound brakes, the new BMW M2 promises great driving dynamics. The electronically controlled Active M Differential, which optimizes traction and directional stability, also plays a significant role here. The M Dynamic Mode (MDM) allows wheel slip and therefore moderate, controlled drifts on the track.

With its four tailpipes, the exhaust system immediately marks the BMW M2 out as a BMW M model and its minimal exhaust back-pressure ensures perfect engine cycles. The electrically controlled flap delivers the distinctive BMW M engine soundtrack across the entire rev range without pushing volume levels to their stipulated limits. In addition, drivers can use the Driving Experience Control switch to select a driving mode and a preconfigured sound to go with it.

The 2016 BMW M2 will be available in US showrooms in spring 2016.
