Just days after first spy photos of the upcoming BMW X2 surfaced on the interwebs, rendering artists got back to work peeling off every piece of camouflage tape to recreate – virtually – what the final design could look like.

The folks over at TopSpeed are delivering a new rendering of the 2018 BMW X2 – one that stands out with typical BMW SUV proportions, sleek design and cues based on the new X1.

There’s much debate as to whether or not BMW should create the X2, as enthusiasts bemoan the dilution of the BMW brand because of cars like the X2. However, you cannot deny the massive sales potential of the X2.

2017 bmw x2 render 750x422 Being based on the X1, there’s not much else BMW has to change to create an X2 and it will sell like crazy, especially in North America where small coupe-like crossovers are incredibly popular. So it should be a great money-maker for BMW.

It will also be more of a coupe-styled crossover like the X4 and will be based on the same UKL platform as the X1.

It certainly shares some similarities with the X1, but looks a bit sportier in profile. It almost has a sort of “big hot hatch” look to it, much like the Mercedes-Benz GLA Class, a car that is actually cooler than it seems. The F39 X2 will separate itself from the X1 by having a higher rear belt line and smaller rear window as well as a more aggressively swept roofline.

Priced accordingly, this X2 SUV will bring new customers to the brand and tap into the millennials generation. Exactly what BMW is betting on currently with the M2 and X1.

The small SUV is slotted to launch in 2018 and will see fierce competition from the Range Rover Evoque and future Audis and Benzs.

Cmon bmw this just like the all-new x1.

It’s only a rendering! Don’t confuse a rendering with a Concept from BMW themselves.

But you have to admit, the differences between a 3-series xDrive wagon, an X1, and an X2 is what precisely? Minor styling cues?

        • Senne says:

Seriously? If that’s your opinion… but I really don’t think the 3 Series Touring looks anything like an X1 apart from the typical BMW Design Cues. They’re totally different cars, at least to these eyes. ;-)

  2. Senne says:

Finally a rendering that’s a bit less ridiculous. Though it looks indeed a bit too much like the X1. The roof isn’t sloping enough, but otherwise not bad.

    Rear-visibility? What’s that?

  4. Elmediterraneo says:

It’s look like a Mercedes GLA

  5. darex says:

So, this is a MINI Clubman with a traditional hatch, that costs more. Got it!

  6. […] with the Audi Q2, which is a smart move considering the increasing popularity of small crossovers. BMW is rumored to be creating an X2 for the segment and it’s said Mercedes-Benz will be doing so also. Built upon the X1 front-wheel […]
