Hyundai Motor America CEO Dave Zuchowski says the South Korean automaker will offer a sedan to compete with the BMW 3 Series, Audi A4 and Mercedes C-Class. The new four-door automobile will be sold under the new Genesis brand which will debut in 2016 when the company introduces the G90 flagship sedan.

Hyundai will be selective about which of its 834 U.S. dealers will carry the six new models under the Genesis brand.

“As we bring all this new product out, it will not go to all dealers,” Dave Zuchowski, Hyundai Motor America CEO, tells WardsAuto.

Zuchowski made a direct reference to the BMW 3 Series sedan which seems to serve as a benchmark for all the recently introduced midsize sedans.

“We do have in our plans more of an entry-level sedan coming, that would be BMW 3-Series-type size, and maybe derivatives off of that with crossovers and stuff, (so) it’s not all larger vehicles,” says Zuchowski.

Further details of the new Genesis brand will be provided at the 2016 Detroit Auto Show.

Kind of sad how much Hyundai copies from BMW. If you take a look at the G90 rendering, the whole front end has a similar angular shape and the headlights have the same shape as the 7 series. Kind of pathetic in my eyes.

Let’s be genuine about what’s going on here for a minute; Hyundai is keenly aware that the consumers they’ll be taking from BMW/Mercedes/Lexus/etc. will be marginal at best.

We all know the type of consumer that Hyundai is targeting here; the same type of consumer that would normally be buying a Hyundai/KIA anyway, or a Honda/Acura/economy class, vehicle to begin with. The type of person who will say “Have you seen those new Hyundai’s? They’re really nice! It’s like having a [insert name of luxury/performance manufacturer here], but it’s a smarter buy because I get all these options at half the price!!!!”. The same type of person who will cruise along side a BMW/Merc on the road, hoping the driver will steal a glance, so they can run and tell there friends how they’re “turning heads” and “making those luxury car buyers think about how they spend there money!”.

Hyundai; no one in this segment cares if you came out with a $1,000,000 supercar or another derivative design for your new marquee. Accord/Avalon consumers should really be the ones concerning the big auto manufacturers. They eat this junk up like it’s mana from the heavens, and ask for more.
