In Summer 2016, BMW will unveil a new generation of the midsize 5 Series sedan. Built under the chassis name – G30 – the 5 Series uses the CLAR platform which will be found in the next 3, 5, 6 and 7 Series models. The modular platform allows BMW to create a new class of vehicles that will be lightweight and rear-wheel drive.
The new 5 Series will continue to use the existing BMW design language, but with some cues from recent models – like the G11/G12 7 Series. Some of the current BMW design features trickled their way into the G30 5 Series looks, starting with the headlights flowing into the kidney grille and the sporty character line flowing across the side of the car.
The front fascia will incorporate lots of chrome elements for both a premium and sporty look. New full LED headlights will be made available, while laser lights will also be offered as an option. The rear end features a sleeker look, more upright and with the same L-shaped LED taillights.
Our sources say the G30/G31 family will get most of the interior goodies that G11/G12 7 Series introduces: remote parking with the smart touchscreen keyfob, gesture control, Bowers & Wilkins Diamond surround sound system, ambient light and fragrance air system.
The renderings shown here aim to illustrate what the G30 5 Series might look like.
