Back in 2014, Swedish engine swap maniac JohanZ started working on a new project based on the Lotus Exige. The owner of this Lotus aimed to replace the original Toyota-built engine for the iconic BMW M5 V10. The 500 horsepower V10 would have been more than enough for the extremely lightweight sportscar.

But considering its size and platform, the engine swap was far from an easy task. Through a 33-page journal, JohanZ outlines in detail all of the modifications and custom fabrication necessary to complete such a complex project of this nature.

Furthermore, the engine was paired with a 6-speed manual gearbox from a Boxster S. A Quaife aftermarket LSD was installed as well planned. 997 GT3 Cup brakes were chosen – measuring 380 mm in diameter.

ATS GTR Motorsports wheels sized 18×9 front and 18×11 rear mounted with Kumho V70A 245s and 305s should provide enough grip for the 500+ hp in this lightweight package.

Yikes, that must screw up the car’s weight balance.

I think it will be fine. Probably somewhere between 30 and 35% of the weight in the front. The car itself is pretty light, so a few extra pounds in the back will help to get the power to the ground

I searched and the S85 is rated at 240 kilos while the 2ZZ GE makes the same… In pounds, so 110kg. 130kg yeah it’s quite a bit actually, when you add the fact that it represents 1/8th of the car’s weight, plus you add the extended body panels…
Also the engine might be a bit more on the rear, not the same position, which further increases the rear weight. There is almost nothing at the front, i don’t know how it will translates on the road though…
