The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer has taken some flak from BMW enthusiasts the world over. Many enthusiasts look at the 2 Series GT as blasphemous, as it tarnishes the BMW reputation for making the Ultimate Driving Machine. However, the 2 Series GT has some redeeming qualities to is and isn’t as bad as the hating enthusiasts say it is.

So let’s take a look at a few reasons why we should buy the 2 Series Gran Tourer.

5. Quality

The 2 Series GT is still a BMW after all, so fit and finish are superb. It’s probably the best MPV you can buy, in terms of fit and finish and luxury. All of the materials are top notch and the interior design is excellent, with loads of cargo space, cubby holes for water bottles and other gear and the typical suite of BMW interior technology. The 2 Series GT is still a BMW underneath the MPV body, so the quality is what you’d expect from the Bavarian brand.

4. Cargo Space

Most people who buy BMWs have families. So interior cargo space is a big factor in buying a BMW. People have to be able to fit children, gear and maybe even some furry friends. This is an area where the 2 Series Gran Tourer excels. It has 560 liters of trunk space, with 1,820 liters with the rear seats folded down. This is more than enough for a small family and makes the 2 Series GT one of the more practical MPVs on the market.

3. xDrive all-wheel drive

The BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is one of the only MPVs to utilize all-wheel drive. BMW’s xDrive all-wheel drive also helps keep that BMW driving experience in tact. Instead of being just a typical front-wheel drive experience that most MPVs offer, the 2 Series GT’s xDrive system can shunt power around between the axles to give it the best possible grip. It also gives the 2 Series GT all-weather capabilities that make it practical all year long.

2. It’s the first BMW MPV

MPVs are something that everyone could use but not many people want one because of the stigma that comes with them. They’re the Bran Muffins of the car world. But now that BMW makes an MPV, you can buy one, use its practicality and never feel like the boring Soccer Mom that MPVs can often make you feel like. It crushes the negative stigma, yet gives all of the positives of an MPV. Like a Belgian Waffle flavored Bran Muffins.

1. It still drives like a BMW

It might sound a bit silly, but the 2 Series Gran Tourer is really the BMW of MPVs. It might still be front-wheel drive-based and it might still be more focused on practicality than performance, but it still drives like a BMW should. It has sharp and accurate steering with relatively good chassis dynamics. It obviously isn’t going to drive like an M3, but it still drives damn well for an MPV. If you’re looking for an MPV for family hauling status but that’s still fun to drive, than the BMW 2 Series Gran Tourer is your absolute best bet.
