From Down Under comes this BMW 1M track/rally car which went on sale for $100,000 ($130,000 Australian dollars).
This Black Sapphire 1M has been extensively tuned and modified to suit the rigors of Targa Tasmania by Performance Parts & Engineering in Hallam, Victoria. The project was led by Alan Heaphy, a highly-respected engineer who has a Le Mans pole position and multiple Bathurst-winning vehicles to his credit.
With all his racing knowledge, Heaphy gave the 1M a full welded-in roll cage, Velo competition seats and six-point racing harnesses to ensure safety.
Under the hood, the 1M gets some extensive work as well starting with a turbo-back exhaust and engine retune along with a larger water radiator, auxiliary radiator and engine oil cooler to aid reliability. It now produces a bit over 500 horsepower.
An AP Racing endurance front brake package with competition pads front and rear helps stop the “black beast.”
As any respectable racing car, the 1M comes with multiple tire compounds and wheels. Spares include the original equipment 19-inch alloys with tires, as well as three spare rear competition rims and four front competition wheels.
This 1M has already seen some wins; the owner won the 2014 Australian Targa Championship in the Showroom Sports category and came second in Class A at Sandown in 2014 in Australian Manufacturers’ Championship.
