There was a time when uttering the word “hybrid” meant something dull and uninventful. But, ever since BMW introduced the futuristic BMW i8, things have changed for that matter. The futuristic design, matched with good performance meant that the eco-friendly solution for high-performance motoring has finally arrived. A raging success for the Bavarian car maker, the i8 has even forced BMW to increase the planned production numbers.
BMW i8 utilizes a plug-in hybrid system consisting of a turbocharged three-cylinder BMW TwinPower Turbo petrol engine and BMW eDrive technology in the form of an electric drive system. The 1.5-liter combustion engine develops 170 kW/231 hp and drives the rear wheels of the BMW i8, while the 96 kW/131 hp electric drive sends its power to the front wheels and allows an all-electric range of up to 35 kilometers (22 miles) and a top speed of 120 km/h (75 mph).
Recently we have seen an influx of aftermarket builds featuring the BMW i8 as the project car. These two BMW i8s come courtesy of Vossen Wheels and both have received a set of Vossen Forged VPS-304 wheels. The wheels are sized 22×9 inches in the front and 22×10.5 inches in the rear. The matching BMW i8s come with a set of Pirelli 245-30-22 and 285-25-22 tires, providing the grip necessary for a high-performance car.
The two BMW i8 models are painted in Sophisto Grey and Crystal White, some believe the best colors offered for the i8. Which one do you think it looks best?
