The rumored BMW X1 M gets another rendering. Both Audi and Mercedes have high-performance variants of their respective small crossovers. Audi has the RSQ3 and Mercedes has the GLA45 AMG, so many believe BMW might be next in line to reveal a high-performance model of the recently unveiled X1.
BMW’s X1 M would follow the design lines of other M SUVs; large air intakes, redesigned and more aggressive front bumper, flared fenders, twin dual exhaust pipes, lower stance, and M Suspension tuning and brakes.
BMW’s 3.0 liter I6 engines will not fit the transverse setup of the front-wheel drive X1, but with BMW’s TwinPower technology, it could easily boost the 2.0 liter turbocharged engine to well over 300 horsepower. Add an eight-speed ZF automatic transmission and/or a six-speed manual, and the X1 M would be one fun ride.
The X5 M and X6 M are seeing huge success in some markets, so the X1 M with its lower price point could be more than just a niche model and reach the mainstream consumer faster.
