Well, it’s Valentine’s Day again. That means a lot of jewelry and chocolates will be bought for significant others all over the country. It also means many attempts, some successful and some not so much, by men trying to get lucky. So there will be lingerie, chocolate, and maybe even some oysters for dinner, all in the name of seduction.
But I think a simpler approach is always best. Try not to seduce the lady with gifts and aphrodisiacs, but rather seduce her with charm. Not overly cocky, “look at how impressive I am” kind of charm. Instead, let your actions to the talking; hold the door for her, pull her chair out for her, listen to her stories (however boring the story about how Becky “so, like couldn’t even” may be). Also, pulling up in a nice car won’t hurt either.
See, the car you drive means more than you might think it does. When you buy a car, you immediately brand yourself a bit. You may not be conscious of it, but you do. Regardless of whether or not you think this is true, it is. See, when you buy a car, you make a conscious decision to drive that specific vehicle every single day; be seen in it, pay insurance on it and generally make a commitment to that vehicle for years to come so the car you choose says something about you whether you think so or not. If you buy a Camry, it means you aren’t concerned with how a car drives or looks, you just want something cheap and reliable. Nothing wrong with this, of course, just a statement of fact. If you buy a Jaguar F-Type, your screaming at the world that you love loud bombastic sports cars. Again nothing wrong with that. But either way, what you drive speaks volumes, especially to a first date.
So let’s take a look at, what I consider to be, the best first date cars. To me, the ideal date car should be interesting, good looking, comfortable and fast.
- Jaguar XKWhether it’s the XK or XK R, this Jag is a spectacular choice to woo a lady. Jags are famous for being the gentleman’s GT car. The XK may be a bit long in the tooth, but it’s still one of the best looking and classiest cars on the road. Plus it’s fast, with that 5.0 liter, supercharged V8, and comfortable. This Jag is sure to impress and seduce any date from the moment they lay eyes on it.
- Mercedes S-ClassWhile not nearly as exciting as the Jag, the S Class is the epitome of luxury. One look at it and you know the driver has money as well as sophistication. Well, maybe they last part isn’t true, but you’d hope at least. What speaks the most about the S Class, to me at least, is it’s desire to forego everything in the name of luxury. It doesn’t look exciting, nor does it drive that way. It simply gets you from A to B in a serene and luxurious manner. It screams quality and luxury and, hopefully, some of that will transfer to you as you pick up your date. Plus it sprays perfume into the cabin so you can fart in the car before picking her up and she’d never know. We’re still guys after all.
- 1st Gen. Ford Mustang
Nothing says blue-collar, classic cool like an original Mustang. Pulling up in a Mustang says you’re a hard working guy who knows how to work with your hands, regardless of whether or not that’s true. It also has classic food looks, soft suspension and that old-school, muscle car sound. It just screams cool, and if you act as cool as the car, you’ll get lucky.
- BMW M6One of the best, fast GT cars on the market, the M6 is absolutely fantastic at being a first date car. With those spectacular good looks, absurdly powerful and sweet sounding V8, and the comfortable, luxurious cabin, the M6 is a seductive thing, indeed. The M6 gets some flak for not being a pure driver’s car, but for this situation, there’s aren’t many cars that work better. I can only think of one, and it’s a bit tough to come by.
- Jaguar E-TypeYes, it’s almost impossible to find one in good shape, and when you do they’re usually over $100,000. But if you can get your paws on one of these, do it. Because pulling up in front of a date’s house in one of these is guaranteed to create fireworks. I know there’s already a Jag on the list, but Jags are just the best for making an appearance, aren’t they? The E-Type is easily one of the greatest looking cars of all time and it’s reminiscent of a time when men were really men. It evokes a feeling of passion over all else and is possibly the most seductive car on earth.
