BMW M2 could be utilizing the rear vent outlets, and possibly even the rear diffuser, from the BMW Vision Gran Turismo

Recently, a test mule BMW M2 was spotted, driving around in the typical black and white camouflage. Well, some folks over at the forum 2addicts think they’ve uncovered a few styling details. Using a bit of photo-software trickery, they’ve been able to make out a few design cues that seem oddly similar to the Vision Gran Turismo Concept.

At the rear of the car, it seems possible that BMW will be utilizing the rear vent outlets, and possibly even the rear diffuser, from the Vision GT. Nothing is for certain obviously, but there are definitely some signs that this could be possible. It also seems possible that the M2 could house the same vertical reflectors as the X5 and X6 M. It’s hard to tell with all of the camo, but there are definite outlines there of something.

The side is where there is the most prominent nod to the Vision GT. There definitely seems to be some sort of side air intake vent, or at least a closed one. Images of the test mule side by side with the Vision GT seem show this pretty clearly. I’m not sure if this would be a functional vent or just for aesthetic purposes, but some sort of vent seems to be there.

The fender flares also seem to be less prominent than on the 1M, and actually seem quite subtle compared to how aggressive the rest of the car seems to look. This is interesting because the M4 doesn’t have larger fender flares than the standard 4 because the 4 Series was already wide enough. The M3 needed them due to the widening of the wheelbase over the 3 Series. So it doesn’t seem likely that the M2 will have a wider track than the standard 2 Series.

The 2 Series is already a great looking car, so I’m very excited to see what the M2 will look like. The Vision GT, just like all of the others before it, looks pretty spectacular so if the M2 shares any design cues with it, the M2 could end up being the best looking small, sports coupe on the market. It isn’t a farfetched idea, as the automaker is the one who creates the design for each Vision GT car, so maybe there are some similarities between the two.

We won’t know until BMW releases official pictures, but the excitement is ramping up pretty quickly.

I think it’d be cool if the M2 had the roundel near the Hofmeister Kink like in the Vision GT.

BMW would best serve itself to step out of the box and make the “Vision GT” as shown in the gran turismo Video Game the actual M2, I think the spy photo’s look too Soft! It’s too traditional. It’s not daring enough, it’s not Brave enough! If it’s going to be the BMW answer to the Porsche Cayman GT4 it need’s to have all the Body cladding and flares and rear wing spoiler like the BMW M3 GTS, like the Cayman GT4 is going to be, like the Porsche GT3. This BMW can be really awesome like as in the picture shown above, or it can be mundane and real Sad looking, just like the current BMW M235i, which in fact looks just like all the New BMW’s! “Lame”
BTW, I’ve owned E30 M3’s, 1M, lot’s of M3’s, and if they produce an awesome cool looking BMW M2, I will buy it, but if it’s conservative looking like the new M4 M3 then BMW can go to hell! I’m done! No more!
How dare they tease us with GTS’s we cant get in the USA, Pictures of the M235i Racing that we can’t purchase in the USA, the M2 Vision GT that’s merely a vision. Obviously BMW has no Vision!
