What happened to the BMW Z4? I feel like not only do customers forget about it, I feel like BMW forgets about it as well. I’ve haven’t heard anything about it in what feels like decades. Until I recently found out that it was one of the worst selling cars of 2014.

Selling 1,983 units in 2014, the Z4 was the 9th worst selling car of the year. Which is a shame as the Z4 is a good little roadster. It has the same great engines as every other BMW, nimble chassis, good steering and infinite headroom. I guess it just isn’t good enough to sell anymore.

This isn’t really all that surprising, though. The Z4 is getting pretty long in the tooth, now, and has gotten some new competition that it simply can’t compete with. The new Mercedes SLK is newer and more modern so it has been stealing a lot of sales from the Z4, despite not being as good. The real Z4 killer is the new Porsche Boxter. The Boxter is not only better than the Z4, but one of the finest convertible sports cars on sale.

That’s not to say the Z4 is bad, just dated. Its competition has upgraded to artillery while the Z4 still uses a bow and arrow. Okay, so it’s not that extreme, but it’s still outdated.

Thankfully BMW is currently working on a new one with the help of Toyota, which could be an absolute riot. Might not carry the Z4 name but we know this will be a better roadster.

It’s a really good car but… If you have the money to buy a BMW Z4, you have the money to buy a Porsche, so… That’s why.

In france, BMW has only sell less than 3.000 Cars. BMW stop the process to made a BMW Z4M but still use it in Motorsport. Nobody understand what they want with this awesome car.

I have the chance to drive one. My dad buy a BMW Z4 S-Drive 35i and it’s a very awesome car. But too expensive.

Yup, this generation of Z4 is crazy money for what you get. Which is a shame because I really like it.

That’s not true. For the same price you have to choose between a full option Z4 35is OR a boxster S without automatic any option like… PDC, GPS, Bluetooth, automatic conditioned air, automatic lights…

It will be totally forgotten once the M6 GT3 is in racing. BMW can’t built sports cars, period. Sporty cars yes, but not sports cars.

    • Elurztac says:

      I don’t understand why they use a M6 GT3 but, instead, i never understand why they put a BMW Z4 GT3.
It’s a beautifull and powerfull car, yes. They can beat Mercedes SLS and Audi R8, ok…

But if someone look that and say “Good damn it ! I Want to buy a BMW Z4 !” and go to the BMW near him and say “I want a BMW Z4 M !” and the only thing he can have is a BMW Z4 with 330 HP. They cannot beat SLS and R8 with this car.

And the M6, i don’t understand, why not waiting the BMW M2 or the M4 ? Maybe they made the M6 for European people and another car for the TUDOR Championship… I hope so.

haha working on one with Toyota! No thanks!

    • Lawrence says:

I mean, I would imagine that there would be some Toyota in it… Why would I buy some BMW/Toyota mix if I can get a pure Porsche Boxter for about the same price and the Porsche has so much better resale value? The final nail would be if they introduce it with FWD. Then hell NO!

      • Elurztac says:

Maybe because since two years, you can see a lot, and very a lot of Porsche. When the summer is here, I view more Porsche than BMW Z3, Z4 and less Z4 S-Drive. It’s actually a magnificient car, and not common. And i prefer Drive a BMW Z4 S-Drive 35is than a Porsche GT3 just for that. Because Porsche is not “untouchable” now and everyone car buy one.

    • Elurztac says:

Toyota made a huge work with the GT86 and I pretty happy to view them work with BMW. They know how to make a car. And want to create one with BMW can be a good stuff.

Very good looking, but too expensive, too soft compared to the e85 Z4. With open top no trunk space for a holiday trip. I will never sell my 2004 e85.

  5. […] BMW has a three piece metal hardtop convertible in the 4 Series and Z4, they have kept it lighter and simpler with a cloth top on the 2er. The top can be opened or closed […]
