The first two models from the new Mercedes-AMG Sport line, the Mercedes-Benz C450 AMG and the Mercedes-Benz GLE450, will be unveiled at the 2015 Detroit Auto Show, and Audi is already selling their S models, so it’s BMW testing their own version of a supped up 3 Series?
According to Motor.es, a BMW 3 Series test car was spotted in Spain and some clues hint that this could be an upgraded 340i model. The M Performance version of the 3 Series has been rumored for quite some time now, but nothing official transpired from Munich. The M340i was often rumored to be powered by the new B58B30M0 six-cylinder engine producing 365 to 375hp.
Although the model seen in these spy photos has no rear bumper, the rest of the body hints at a 335i model. What really stands out though are the upgraded brakes with yellow calipers in the front and rear.
No variant of the 3 Series sells those brakes as standard.
If this turns out to be the more probable 340i, then the car will be driven by 330 horsepower from the same B58 unit. Recently our own sources said that an M340i is unlikely for this current generation, but not ruled out for the next 3 Series in 2019.
