Last week, German magazine Auto Bild published an article on a BMW 1 Series Sport Cross model arriving in 2018. Today, we have new images of the rumored crossover.
According to sources, the new BMW 1 Series Cross Sport is built internally under the name X-Zero or New Entry Crossover. Power will be sent to the front-wheels and it would be positioned below the second-generation BMW X1, also a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive crossover.
Details are scarce at the moment, but the BMW 1 Series Sports Cross aims to extend the next generation 1 Series which will move to a front-wheel drive layout.
As we reported last week, the rendering shows a vehicle of the size of a 1 Series hatchback, but with a higher ride height and four doors. The sloping roof line gives the car a dynamic and sporty look. The front follows the upcoming BMW design language, with more angular shapes and sleeker headlights.
As far as competitors, if we look solely at these renderings, then the closest one that comes to mind is the Range Rover Evoque.
The project has yet to be approved for production, but the design idea is certainly on the table.GCF]
