The latest edition of the German magazine AutoBild features some renderings of a BMW 2 Series Gran Turismo. Initially thought to be the 2 Series GT, the Active Tourer turned out to be BMW’s first foray into the front-wheel drive segment.
The 2 GT is said to have a sleek design with a coupe roof and the recent BMW design language which includes angular shapes and slimmer headlights. Just like the larger GT models, the driving position is likely to be raised to provide better view of the road and a more commending stance.
Just like the Active Tourer, the 2 Series Gran Turismo would run on the UKL front-wheel drive platform which allows for increased cabin space and the inclusion of highly efficient three and four-cylinder engines.
It is unclear if BMW has green lighted the car yet, but the AutoBild renderings point to the fact that at least conversations within BMW are taking place. It also remains unknown if BMW is committed to bring a 2 Series Gran Coupe to market as well, a rear-wheel drive vehicle built upon the 2 Series Coupe family.
