A BMW 2 Series Hybrid prototype was spotted tested at Nurburgring.
At the International Media Launch of the BMW 2 Series Active Tourer, we have learned that BMW will also release a plug-in hybrid model of the 2 Series Active Tourer.
While the petrol and diesel-powered 2 Series Active Tourer were unveiled in March in Geneva and are scheduled to come to market this year, the hybrid version of BMW’s first front-wheel drive vehicle will be launched in 2015.
The plug in hybrid drive which drives the rear wheels via an electric motor gives the car an efficient all-wheel drive system. BMW will offer the 2 Series Active Tourer with a front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive configuration.
Featured first in the concept car, the standard BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid Tourer will sport a three-cylinder petrol engine at the front and an electric motor in the rear. The second power source placed at the rear axis would make for a four-wheel drive, allowing for front, rear and all-wheel drive driving modes.
BMW has yet to confirm the final power output, but we have heard somewhere north of 190 horsepower. 0 to 62 mph (100 km/h) is expected to come in under eight seconds.
BMW 2 Series Active Hybrid will debut in 2015.
