In less than a week, BMW will unveil a new addition to the 2 Series family. The BMW 2 Series Convertible, and its high-end model – BMW M235i Convertible – will make their web debut ahead of the official unveil at the 2014 Paris Motor Show.
Meanwhile, in Munich, spy photographers came across a BMW M235i Convertible prototype featuring little camouflage around the lights and sporting the beautiful Melbourne Red Metallic paint.
Just like its predecessor, the 1 Series Cabriolet, the new F23 2 Series Convertible open-top will feature a fabric roof.
The F23 BMW 2 Series cabrio is built exactly like the previously offered 1 Series Convertible at the Leipzig plant, and it is designed atop the coupe platform. The design cues of the cabriolet are similar to the coupe so no major surprises are expected.
Engine lineup will be taken over from its fixed roof sibling so we expect to see a 228i Cabriolet, 220i and 220d, at least for the market launch. The BMW M235i Convertible takes over the power plant from the M235i Coupe, a 3.0 liter inline-six turbocharged engine producing 322 hp and 332 lb-ft of torque. The M235i Convertible should be capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds when optioned with the 8-speed sport automatic.
BMW 2 Series Convertible will go head-to-head wit the Audi A3 convertible.
