The success of the BMW X6 has not only given us the new X4 Sports Activity Coupe, but it also opens a new class of compact SUVs. Based of the second-generation F48 BMW X1, the BMW X2 SAC will launch in 2017 with a three-door configuration.
The design has yet to be unveiled through the usual real-life testing sessions, so we’ll have to rely on rendering artists to portray the X2.
Theophilus Chin takes some design cues from the recent X models and combines them with the F22 BMW 2 Series Coupe to give us an interesting look of the dynamic X1 offshoot.
Some new design cues will make their way into the final design as well, with a focus on round narrow, angular headlights, sharp creases and an enlarged double kidney grille.
An M Sports Package was added to the rendering, along with four tailpipes at the rear to give the X2 a dynamic look.
Power will come from a wide range of engines, three and four-cylinder units. At the low-end of the range, we will find the 1.5 liter turbo petrol and diesel found in the 218i and 218d Active Tourer. At the the top of the family, a performance X2 vehicle with 300 horsepower might appear as well to compete with the Mercedes GLA 45 AMG and Audi RS Q3.
A plug-in hybrid version is likely as well, promising 100mpg-plus.
