At the 2014 Paris Motor Show in October, BMW will unveil the first generation 2 Series Convertible. Ahead of its launch, several prototypes are being tested around the world, including in BMW’s hometown, Munich. A BMW M235i Convertible in Estoril Blue was spotted this past weekend.
Just like its predecessor, the 1 Series Cabriolet, the new F23 open-top will feature a fabric roof.
The F23 BMW 2 Series cabrio is built exactly like the previously offered 1 Series Convertible at the Leipzig plant, and it is designed atop the coupe platform. The design cues of the cabriolet are similar to the coupe so no major surprises are expected.
Engine lineup will be taken over from its fixed roof sibling so we expect to see a 228i Cabriolet, 220i and 220d, at least for the launch. BMW will also unveil the M235i Convertible which just like the M235i Coupe will be powered by the 3.0 liter inline-six producing 322 hp and 332 lf-ft of torque. The M235i Convertible should be capable of 0-60 in 4.8 seconds when optioned with the 8-speed sport automatic.
The M235i Convertible will be priced slightly higher than the M235i Coupe which starts at $44,050.
