The BMW M2 is coming. The successor of the amazingly successful 1M is currently undergoing testing and it’s scheduled for launch in March 2016.

Currently in pre-FEP (pre Final Evaluation Phase), the M2 sports the typical BMW camouflage that hides some if its final design cues. The M2 prototype is also starting to add the final components to the car and design, starting with M brakes, flared fenders, four-tailpipe exhaust and aggressive front fascia.

The BMW M2 Facebook Page has just put together a comparison of the 1M prototype side-by-side with the M2 test mule. The developmental comparison shows the two cars from different angles and gives us an idea what to expect.

While the 1M develops 340 horsepower from a 3.0 liter TwinTurbo engine, the M2 is rumored to deliver 360 to 380 horsepower from an updated version of the N55 TwinPower 3.0 liter engine (N55B30T0). Compared to the 1M, the M2 will also add a DCT option aside from the six-speed manual.

Unlike the 1M, the BMW M2 will not be a limited production so expect to see plenty of those units in the hands of a younger demographic.

Sigh… this doesn’t play well with my goals. I’m supposed to be leaving BMW for a sensible, reliable brand, not opting into an overpriced toy car. Argh…

I am hoping that this vehicle doesn’t go too far over 70k. I’m in if I can get it for 70 or under..

And, I put 100 miles on a brand new M235i the other day through the windy’s. Pretty impressive, but my current 2013 G37S has a bit more hp and is as much fun to drive – with a few more of the luxuries. IDK, I think I need 400 hp to make me happy in this little bimmer.

You can easily bring the M235i to 400 hp. Tuning for that it’s easy

The dealer told me of a writing harness. It’s this what your talking about?

        • James Lizotte

          I meant wiring harness.
