A year after celebrating its 40th anniversary and the debut of its fourth generation, the 6 Series family is rumored to add a new variant to its lineup: a Gran Tourer.
The 6 Series Shooting Break is said to not sacrifice on aesthetics in favor of practical aspects. The Gran Coupe will serve as a design inspiration for the Gran Tourer but it will come with a very inclined tailgate, fine glass surfaces, lower ride height and no roof track.
The niche model will also deliver enhanced luxury and exclusivity and it will be more convenient than the Gran Coupe, thanks to its electric tailgate opening.
The 2017 BMW 6 Series, presumably named G32 and G33, is based on the 2016 G30 BMW 5 Series so will feature a lighter chassis and will make use of lightweight materials. The luxurious two-and four-door will remain priced clearly above the BMW 5 Series and retain their own interior.
At least one variant with a plug-in hybrid drive will be added to the 6 Series family, while most of the variants will continue to be powered by conventional petrol and diesel engines.
BMW 6 Series Gran Tourer, if greenlighted, will arrive in 2017.
