An F82 BMW M4 Coupe in Silverstone Metallic was spotted in Belgium. Some of you might wonder why this is news, but the back story goes something like this.

At recent auto shows I had the privilege to hold long and meaningful conversations with Florian Nissl, BMW M3/M4 Exterior Designer, and Domagoj Dukec, BMW’s Head of Exterior Design, a charismatic and very talented designer.

Among many topics, from front-wheel drive to lightweight materials, we touched on the topic of best color choice for the new M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe. While many of us already associate the F80 M3 with the Yas Marina launch color and the F82 M4 with the Austin Yellow, the exterior color palette is quite extensive and diversified: Alpine White, Mineral Grey Metallic, Sakhir Orange, Black Sapphire Metallic, Silverstone Metallic and Mineral White Metallic.

So I had to ask: if I were to buy tomorrow an F80 M3 or 82 M4, which color should I get? Or even better, which color best showcases the two cars in all their glory? Both Florian and Domagoj have a soft spot for a classic M3/M4 in white, and both of them said the Austin Yellow is a fantastic and polarizing color that will age well.

But according to them, the color that shows best the design, the shapes and all the fine details is Silverstone Metallic.

My last M3 was Silverstone, it’s a nice color but not the best silver I’ve ever seen, it has a light touch of blue in it. If I decide to get a M4 convertible it’s going to be Alpine white.

My current E92 M3 is Silverstone. I really like the colour. It is unique to ///M, giving it some sort of exclusivity and it is a breeze to maintain. I have also ordered my M4 in Silverstone with the black wheels as seen on the pictures. Can’t wait to pick it up at the Welt in 2 weeks.

Agreed. It looks perfect with black wheels.

Send us photos, would love to feature them. info@bmwblog.com

Not that stunning… The color makes it look like any other car on the road.

Very ordinary… Unless that’s what you’re looking for.

Yes, but it shows the design lines well.
