BMW hopes it has a new benchmark for the sports car world with its 2015 BMW M4, but does the 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray dash those hopes?

To find out, Automobile Magazine went to Gingerman Raceway.

The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray has a 6.2-liter V8 engine producing 460-horsepower and reaching 0 to 60 mph in 4.3 seconds (4.1 with 1 foot of rollout as on a drag strip) and clears the quarter-mile in 12.4 seconds at 113.7 mph.

Powering the new M3/M4 is an all new, 3.0 liter twin turbocharged in-line six cylinder twisting out a whopping 431 hp, 406 ft-lbs of torque. Sometimes it’s hard to tell how many turbos a BMW has with their liberal use of “TwinPower Turbo” which can refer to a twin-scroll turbo or two turbos, but M3/M4 has two actual turbos. 0-100 km/hr comes in 4.1 seconds when equipped with the third generation M Double Clutch Transmission.

The conclusion?

“The 2015 BMW M4 is an incredible car. The 2014 Chevrolet Corvette Stingray is equally incredible. And that realization, that a Kentucky-built icon can stack up to Munich’s legend, is the most incredible thing of all.”

come on with the vette you’re using 0-60 times but with the bimmer 0-62. If you expect me to take you seriously you need to have equal comparisons.

Most European manufactures test 0-100kph or 0-62mph American manufactures test 0-60mph

The vettes 0-60 time was from an earlier edmunds c7 vs e9x m3. Which the m3 got 0-60 in 4.9 vs the vettes 4.3. On ideal conditions the c7s time is 3.8. Granted bmw will probably have an easier time/more consistant time getting to bmws claimed 4.1 more often then the c7 as what I’ve seen with other journalist reviews.
